Not At All What We Expected!
We are Marriott Timeshare owners and exchanged a beautiful unit (rated Gold by Interval) at Newport Coast for what was rated as Gold at Riviera Oaks Resorts.
We actually thought we had the wrong place when we drove up. What looked to be an old cluster of apartment buildings bordered in front by a cramped parking lot and around the perimeter by two busy streets, was the “resort”.
In our opinion, this should not have even been rated, by Interval, as a Silver let alone Gold. The unit we had was tired and badly in need of updating.
The walls had chipped paint, the carpet was stained, the bathrooms had no ventilation fans, and the master bath was so cramped that you could not stand in front of the mirror unless the door was shut because the toilet was in the way.
The walls were paper thin and you could hear your neighbours, especially the people above you. The overall quality of the complex was entirely disappointing when compared to the description and photos of the property online.
We noticed that they must rent these units by the night because there were 3 different groups of people that moved in and out of the unit above us at all hours of the day and night, as well as new people at the pool every day.
Housekeeping seems to be disorganized – we had to call for a few missing items after we checked in.
We verified with the housekeeping staff person that we would be getting a towel exchange mid-week because we were there for a whole week. She said she would be doing that on Wednesday.
Wednesday evening we came back to our unit and all of our used towels were still sitting in a pile in the bathtubs (where we had left them that morning for housekeeping to exchange). That was it! We packed up our things and moved out 3 nights earlier than planned.
The reviews seem to be more than generous but perhaps that is because the rate for renting by the night is in line with what you get for your money.
If you are a property owner exchanging your timeshare – you may be very disappointed.
