Passage House Club

Good for short stay – Passage Hotel

We stayed here for 3 nights as we got a very good deal on Travelzoo.

Situated a few minutes off the main road down a long winding road the Passage House Best Western Hotel looks okay. There seem to be 2 sides of the complex. On one side of the road are “Lodges” while on the other side there is the hotel and reception. Car parking is a bit tight with not much space to reverse in and out but there is another car park outside the lodges. It is further to walk with cases or bags but seemed safer to park as there was more room.

The entrance and reception was welcoming and our room was just down the corridor by the reception in quite a nice quiet room. The room was quite adequate in that it had all that you would need for a 2 pr 3 night stay. Tea and coffee making facilities were available and were replenished each day. Everything was clean and tidy including the bathroom. We did suspect that there might have been something not quite right with the drains as there was an intermittent ‘drain’ smell in the bathroom.

There were no toiletries except foamy soap dispensers by the wash basin and by the shower. You could apparently ask reception for anything else that you needed. Read the information in the file that is in the room to see what is available.

Visiting the leisure centre was a bit of a disaster. There was no-one on reception so when we eventually signed in and went to our respective changing rooms we both realized that we didn’t have towels. We went up to reception but there was again no-one there to ask. However, another visitor told us that we should bring the towels from our bedroom as the leisure centre charged £1 to use their towels. We returned to our bedroom and picked up the towels and again went to our respective changing rooms.

Once undressed and into our swimmers, we both realized that our new £1 coins would not work in the lockers. A lady in my changing room told me that the new £1 coins would not work and kindly swapped my new coin for an old one. (Apparently, supermarket trolley tokens also work in the changing rooms which were also interesting and something to remember.) My husband but this time had got dressed again and couldn’t find anyone in reception to ask for advice so had decided to give up and went to read while I went for my swim and jacuzzi.

This was not very pleasant as the water was not very warm. Another lady in the pool said she thought it might be 26 or 27 degrees. I asked one of the people working there as I was leaving and he said that it was 29 degrees.

The jacuzzi was part of the large swimming pool so was the same temperature which was very disappointing as I thought that most if not all jacuzzis were warm!
I didn’t stay in the water very long and decided on a sauna to warm up.

The sauna and steam rooms are single sex in your own changing rooms (we prefer mixed saunas). Any way I can say that both the sauna and steam room in the ladies changing room was hot very nice indeed
