Marriott's SurfWatch

Marriott’s SurfWatch

Another Marriott Winner

We have stayed in multiple Marriott Vacation Clubs and we usually stay at the Grande Ocean in Hilton Head, but this year decided to try out Surf Watch. As has been typical of Marriott properties the villas are spacious, updated and very clean–we actually had a 3 bedroom, 3 bath villa so plenty of space for the family. Although we had a middle floor, the villas were very sound proof and we were not bothered by noise at all.

Grounds were nicely manicured and immaculate.

Plenty of grilling areas, horseshoe pit, bocce ball court, sports court. Surf Watch has most of its buildings either surrounding a small lake area which was nicely quiet or around the main pool–likely you will have more noise level in the pool area buildings during the summer especially with the balcony window open.

Only one building was closer to the ocean than the others–that is the only “ocean front” building but likely only the top 3 floors will really provide a good view of the water. There are two large outdoor pools (one very close to the ocean) and an indoor pool which was also quite large.

The fitness room was clean, with new equipment and well cared for locker areas. There is a good sized theater room which my son was looking forward to using but we had so much to do he was never able to try it out–theater typically plays 3 different movies per day starting from early morning to the last show at 8:30 pm (G or PG early on and R movies in the evenings).

There is also a huge public park within short walking distance or 2 minute drive that has public tennis courts which are the ones used by Surf Watch guests (first come first serve). While our whole family still preferred the Marriott Grande Ocean due to its location (buildings closer to the ocean) and free passes to Sea Pines–which is a beautiful place to bike around, Surf Watch is pretty much close to everything on the island due to its location.
