We just returned from a 10 day stay on Kauaii,. We stayed 4 out of 9 nights at Kapaa Shores.
If you appreciate insect infested accommodations with filthy furniture and no AC this is the place for you. “Dated” is an understatement. The furniture is at least 40 years old and filthy. We stayed in the 2 bedroom condo on the third floor which was a sweltering sweat box. The master is up a still another floor and had absolutely no air circulation.
Sleeping was a challenge. There is a reason why they don’t show photos of the units.
The “resort” has a rule that “quiet” time be observed from 10p until 8a. That means go to bed. We received a call on our first morning there telling us that the guests below our unit had complained we were too noisy in the morning and complained we were moving furniture. (We pulled the chairs out from the table.)
The stairway to the loft squeaked and sounded like it would collapse at any moment.
There is no sound insulation at this place so if you stay on any floor other than the third (keep in mind there is no elevator) you will have people below complaining.
Yes, it is on the shore but you cannot walk on or use beach. The pool area was clean but nothing special.
There was no washer or dryer in our condo but there is a laundry room that closes promptly at 10PM (quiet time). Front desk personnel were not very nice despite the cool air conditioned office they have the luxury of working in.
No housekeeping services are offered. On our last night we received a notification that we would have to be out of our unit between 9AM and 1PM while they sprayed for insects. While this service was badly needed in our unit you would think they would actually perform this duty when the unit was going to be empty. Thank God we were checking out anyway.
If you want a lovely vacation just steer clear of this place. It is a nightmare.
We were told that the Kauai property is “much nicer” than the Vacation International location on Maui so you probably want to rethink that option as well.
