Club la Costa Castillo del Rey

Club la Costa Castillo del Rey

Urb. Solvillas II, 13, 29649 Las Lagunas de Mijas, Málaga, Spain

Best suited to older couples

We stayed in the Castillo del Rey apartments which had a pool and Jacuzzi on our doorstep and were only shared with a few other people.

The privacy was great but at times, it felt quite isolated. What I missed during this holiday was music to listen to and activities to watch at the poolside, as well as having little shops nearby to browse around.

Even when we visited the pool at the Santa Cruz building, it lacked atmosphere. On the plus side, there was never any problem getting a sunbed and we had a bar on site very close to our apartment!

The bar staff were lovely and spoke away to our son, who is 2. The same couldn’t be said for the bar staff at the Santa Cruz poolside bar. The service was very slow and I don’t think they smiled yet!

Our apartment was nice and had everything that you need, however, the rooms were very small with limited wardrobe space. This took us by surprise as the last CLC apartment which we stayed in Tenerife was very spacious.

The apartment had a secure entry with various alarms and key card systems to get through. A maid came in every second day which was plenty as they always left enough clean towels. It felt like we were very far away from life outwith the CLC resort!
My husband wanted to find a chemist but couldn’t find anything within walking distance. We finally found one when we were through in Fuengirola one evening. There is a taxi rank on site which is useful for venturing out with the resort.
I would generally say that this resort is best suited to older couples looking for peace and relaxation. I wouldn’t recommend it for young families. Although there are some activities for children, you really need to search for them.
Outwith the resort, we visited La Cala de Mijas (lovely), Miramar Shopping Centre (another big thumbs up), Soul Park (children’s amusement park) and AquaMijas (a good water park for all ages from toddlers upwards).
