Cherry Orchard Apartments

250 W El Camino Real, Sunnyvale, California

Outdated rundown property but nice staff

It is hard to be critical after meeting the lovely staff at Cherry Orchard, who were always friendly and helpful, but this place is a dive. Negatives: It doesn’t seem to have been updated since the 1960s or 70s. The rooms are strange with a wall and window facing the front door, narrow hallways, popcorn ceilings and worn fixtures and doors.

The hallways are like a maze and there are holes and paint peeling where old fire hydrants were ripped off the walls.

The whole place kind of smells and a lot of the units are rented for long term lets (monthly or more).

Laundry is quite expensive, £5.50 for a token to wash and £1.50 for 15 min token in dryer.

Although the unit was clean it just felt dirty since everything was so old.

Positives: The pool is warm and has an old fashioned slide. The kitchen is well stocked. It is close to the shops in Port Erin and it is right across the street from the steam train depot and a bus stop. The kitchen is a decent size and the twin room has good storage. The staff is all really nice, especially Jerry who works the front desk and sometimes at the bar.

Would I stay again? Probably not, I would spend a bit more and stay at a place with more charm and character.
