So good and so poor at the same time
We own a penthouse week at Anfi Emerald and have been coming here on and off for a number of years. It’s been 18 months since our last visit and I have to say it was ever so slightly disappointing compared to previous holidays.
Let me start off by saying you can’t fault the level of service you receive, from being picked up from the airport to the front of house reception staff, nothing is too much trouble and always happy to help, from booking taxis or making restaurant reservations it’s always with a smile, professional and personable all the time. The location of the apartments are amazing, the views are incredible, the grounds around the complex are very well maintained. The pools are lovely, and nice to see new seating areas and updated furniture this return visit. This is a lovely place to get away and chill in pure luxury. So why the disappointment, well in this luxury paradise we call our second home, on this visit Anfi you dropped the ball. First off the smell, what was with the constant smell of sewage especially in the mornings, we have never had this before, every day was the same. Our penthouse was on the 10th floor and to be honest it was looking a little tired, air con in the main bedroom only worked at 70%. Cracks in some of the walls, fixtures in the bathroom loose. The level of cleaning wasn’t great this time, the maids seemed overwhelmed and stressed. The above are not major points when you take everything in consideration, and it’s not that I am trying to be picky it’s just we noticed a big drop in standards in certain areas which we found disappointing compared to previous visits. However, my biggest issue was with the restaurant, this has never been the best place to eat but it has got worse. It has a captive market, so perhaps it’s felt it doesn’t have to try too hard, but this visit it was really bad, let me give you a few examples. 4 prawns in the prawn pasta (ordered this 3 times and the same each time) for €10 I expect more, cheap frozen burgers, is it really difficult to cook a fresh burger. Overcooked tasteless pizzas, and stodgy risottos. It’s been the same lunch and dinner menu for as long as I can remember coming to Anfi, this time you can tell they are trying to save costs by cutting back on more expensive ingredients, remember we have eaten from the same menu for the last 5 years I know exactly what it was like before. Less waiting staff this time which didn’t help, especially when we waited over an hour between our starters and main course, not ideal and no apology. And talking of waiters, except for one all the others were just miserable. La Cascada needs a total overhaul, it just doesn’t fit into the quality or ambience of the hotel. As I say it’s never been great but now it’s just awful, very poor value for money. Unless you want to get into a taxi you have no other choice if you want to eat out. We love Anfi, it’s home from home, in our stressed-out lives one week away in pure paradise is exactly what we need, hopefully, Anfi will read this note an decide to take action.
