Pergola Hotel
Our room was spacious but spartan. The bed was comfortable. Finding our room through the maze of lifts and corridors was confusing and quite difficult. Service was poor to average, but the staff were polite.
When we needed some ice cubes from our freezer we discovered someone had previously used it to store their used chewing gum! We called room service and they brought us ice cubes but initially, no clean ice cube tray which required a second call to room service. We also had some monster cockroaches in our bath which came through the bath overflow pipe.
On leaving the hotel we were overcharged on several items and had to prove we had already paid by showing on my phone that payments had been made, they didn’t seem to be able to find our payments on their paperwork after searching for 10 minutes. Since coming home I received an email from the hotel soliciting a Trip Advisor review.
I went back to the hotel asking if they really wanted my feedback, and they offered an upgrade if I went back! There are too many hotels in Malta to ever bother about doing that. They needed to have perhaps offered a free meal and a bottle of wine at the time to show they were sorry, not by now offering me an upgrade should I ever go back. I would NOT recommend this hotel.
Poor Expectations
Having stayed at the sister hotel Solana twice before we thought we would try the Pergola this time. Room was terrible – no working phone, a/c in room did not work and shower leaked all over the place. Cleaning staff said this happened all the time and leaks typical. No seal to tiles under the mixer tap and water runs off the bath edge as not levelled properly so water leaks all over the floor. Expected to just put down beach towels to soak up the water. Hotel must have known of this problem before booking out the room. Pools are much smaller than impression given on website. Location very good but right next to building site and work starts at 7a.m every day !
Disappointed.
We had a 10 day stay at Hotel Pergola, Malta. On arrival, we were allocated Room 86. This is a room at the top of the building, South facing. Outside temperatures were 30 degrees plus. On entering the room, we noticed it was very hot. Turned on the Air Conditioning and were disappointed to find it very ineffectual. Raised this with Reception who eventually sent a Maintenance man. He was unable to repair it. After a sleepless night, we again spoke to Reception. They offered to provide a fan for the room. This at least moved the air around but did little to lower the temperature. After 4 uncomfortable nights, we again spoke to Reception. No other room was available. I would also add that the external door is broken, so apart from the temperature we couldn’t s,hut out the noise from the surrounding area. After contacting our Travel Agent, we finally received an offer from Reception to move rooms. This was on the 9th night of our 10 night stay, at 6pm. We went to speak to the lady who made the offer,, but she was busy. We were asked to wait to see her but as we were on our way out, we declined. Also told them it was pointless moving us for 1 night, as we had raised the concern over a week earlier.
No doubt someone from the Pergola will reply to this saying they will investigate. We just wish they had dealt with it while we were there.
Malta and Mellieha are beautiful. This experience won’t stop us returning to the islands.
Very disappointed this time
We have stayed at the Pergola before and loved it! That is why we booked to come again. The hotel itself is ok.
It’s a bit dated but kept very clean and staff are very friendly! However, this time round we hated it! It’s still clean and the staff are still very friendly but now the hotel seems to allow people who are not staying at the hotel to pay to use the pool for the day! So the pool area is overcrowded, noisy and dirty! And you can forget finding a free sunbed after 10 am!
People pay to spend the day there and camp out by the pool area for the whole day! If you want to use the pool in the afternoon forget finding a sunbed! I saw lots of people who had to sit on the hard plastic chairs in the bar as the sunbeds were all taken by people who were not staying at the hotel! It’s easy to spot them as they wear armbands and they are everywhere!
So I don’t see the point of paying a lot of money to stay in a hotel with a pool when you can’t actually get to use it! And as it’s overcrowded it’s constantly noisy! So we won’t be staying here again! Oh, and the WiFi never works!
Terrible hotel and customer service
Awful stay at this poor excuse for a hotel. Mouldy AC unit, dirty/unkempt room, extreme noise and vibrations from works outside causing us to wake up at 6am (we weren’t forewarned), unsafe car park (no lighting at all), rude staff and promises not kept – just some of the issues we experienced during our very short stay.
A special occasion was completely ruined because of these problems, and none of it was rectified at all. Pierre, one of the managers, comes across as an articulate man with attention to detail – in a public sense – but he went out of his way NOT to meet our needs or expectations in a private email. Half expecting a reply to this comment with some heartfelt apology from him saying he’ll do his best to make things right and then have him not follow through. Got the proper gist of him now after months of back and forth emails. Folks, what you see on here is just him saving face and blowing out a massive load of hot air.
Also, don’t be fooled by the pretty pictures online, or even the charming reception area you’re greeted with upon your arrival – the rooms and customer service will tell a very different story.
If you want an enjoyable holiday, give the Pergola a wide berth and go elsewhere!
