Don’t bother....
I have been traveling for over 30 years now.
Either with my family or my sister, who has been a travel agent for 20 years. I have been to many resorts all over the Caribbean. This trip I traveled with a large group so we needed to keep the price down for our vacation.
We chose Occidental for the price and the reviews we have read on trip advisor.
I honestly didn’t like this resort at all. My air conditioner barely worked, kept telling them and they tried moving us. We couldn’t move because my kids were next to us and couldn’t accommodate the both of us moving.
Then they said we will move you to another block, but the rest of my family was in the block we were in.
They said they were full. Our first day, we went to the pool bar and wasn’t served at all. I waited patiently as the hotel was busy with locals coming in for the weekend. But nothing, they served the Spanish speaking people.
I left the bar as my teenage son needed something to drink to take his medication. The beach was just awful. It looked like a green lake filled with seaweed. Not anyone’s fault, but you go to Punta Cana for a beautiful beach. You will not find it here.
The entertainment people did the same thing day after day.
They didn’t even bother talking with the anyone.
Not friendly at all.
I could go on and on but it will take a long time to write. Take my advice and book some place else. Not worth it at all.
I had to rate it a one just so I can submit this review.

Occidental Punta Cana Review
We stayed for 6 nights at the Occidental Punta Cana and I can say I will not be returning.
Our first issue was all the main restaurants besides buffet require you to wear pants and not a single person in our group brought pants.
I’ve stayed in the Dominican 5 times now and have never been to a resort that requires long pants.
The service at the bars and restaurants are not near as good as they were at previous resorts.
If you upgrade to the Royal club it is a waste of money because for $200 or something dollars more all you get is 1 restaurant and 1 bar. I will say the resort looks very nice but should not receive a 4 and half stars as vacation express lost it.
Save your money or bring canned food
Although the hotel accommodation itself was ok, the service was horrible and none of the staff spoke English.
The food was terrible and it felt like we were stuck on an island rather than on an all inclusive resort vacation.
We all had serious digestive issue by the second day ??.This is a two star hotel at best. Save your money and book a real punta cana resort.
I can honestly say that the best day of this vacation was the day we left!
First club member mistreat
My family and I have been members of the resort chain since before it was sold to Barcelo, since it was called Allegro Vacation Club and a couple of years ago we upgraded to the First Club membership. I went with my wife for our honeymoon in may. Before, after handing in your room you were allowed to eat at the buffet and keep your bracelet, just in case your flight was delayed or wasn’t until very later and you didn’t want to go the airport so early.
When I was checking out they informed us that the new policies state that the bracelets have to be removed as soon as you hand out the room even if you’re not leaving until later but that with a receipt the representative handed us, we get all the services regardless. The lady took the bracelets, gave us the so mentioned receipt and we went to the main buffet before leaving Punta Cana.
At the main buffet there is an area reserved for first club members and if there is a line you are allowed to skip it because you are going to a separate area.
When I approached the representative (I will reserve the name since my intentions are not to get anybody fired) and showed her the “receipt” she did not recognize it and did not allow us to enter, there was a first club representative there to who I explained I was a member and then the lady added “well right now they are not part of any group”, just because we did not have the bracelets and in front of about 20 people!
So for what reason you become a member paying thousands of dollars for a membership, just to have a bracelet?! The first club representative then told us, “well if you are one of my members go ahead” like not completely believing us. This was an unacceptable approach to any customer and even more to a member of one of the clubs.
This policy needs to change or if not at least train your employees to first, not to make inappropriate or disrespectful comments and even worst in front of other guests and second train them that there will be times when members ask to leave later and remain in the premises bec
Bad service. Hotel is not 5 star...
I had really bad experienced at Occidental Punta Cana. I used to travel to the Caribbean before inc. Dominican Republic but not in a million years i was expecting such a bad experience.
One of the main reason i booked it as it has beach restaurant which is open for lunch. It is not the case. Beach restaurant is opened only Saturdays whilst the web site of hotel adv it as open daily. I had to walk in the roasting heat to the main restaurant to get lunch every day. Not even a refreshments or fruits which normal practice for all inclusive resorts. No, only drinks.
Service at the hotel is horrible. Waiters do not speak English. One night the waiter poured water into my glass with white wine and just walked away. No apology or another glass of wine. It is unacceptable.
You are waiting for a glass of water around 15 mins when you come to the restaurant.
Another example of bad service is that last day during the lunch time I ordered the glass of white house wine. The waiter poured something into the glass. It was water. I mean white wine was so diluted with water that even the color of wine was almost transparent. It is unacceptable for 5 star hotel. Every guest pays a good sum of money for all inclusive.
I had to deal with service team at least two times to get broken light , not working deposit box and broken handle in the bathroom to be sorted.
Lobby bar is very busy especially around the week end. You can wait for 20 mins before you are served. Waiters in lobby bar approach guest around 11.00pm. and ask to pour drink to plastic cups only because the bar is closing.
Hotel is very noisy especially around swimming pool. The bar has loud music anyway and it seems to me that every family would like to have it is own box with music which they put very loud. Rules of the swim pool specify not to use the music but staff do not care.
I would not recommend this hotel as it is not great value for money, too noisy and it provides very very bad service. Obviously staff is underpaid, overworked and look bored and do not care in general.
Worst experience of my life.
My family and I went to Punta Cana for the first time and I can honestly say that we will NEVER go back.
I became so ill that I had to be hospitalized. The staff/locals had the absolute worst attitudes possible. Even got a few eye rolls from a few of them when asking for things like what i’d like to drink or eat… It was mind boggling.
Our building was far away from the lobby so when I became very ill, my significant other called down to the lobby and asked them to send a cart to pick us up because I couldn’t walk. He was told “yes of course” 3 times. He had to call three separate times before someone gave a sh*t enough to send one. The food was awful. I could not believe how terrible it was.
The “American” restaurant located above the main pool leaves food uncovered. There were birds walking through and pecking at the food that they put out for people to eat….. House keeping stopped coming after day 1 and had to be called everyday to come and clean and replenish our towels. I could go on and on.
Please do your research. The Occidental Punta Cana was one of the worst experiences of our lives and we won’t ever visit again because of it. The staff looks/treats you like they want to kill you
Worst trip ever
Worst resort I’ve been to in punta cana I wont be back. The staff are very rude and unprofessional.
Cant even enjoy your vacation without them chasing you down to ask you the same million questions every day.
I wont be back it was a waste of my money.
