Unacceptable
Unacceptable For The Marriott Brand
I was scheduled to stay at this hotel for 4 days/3 nights. I decided to leave after one night. The staff at the front desk was not super helpful. I ended up in an ACA room, without being told about it first.
The front door to our room stayed open for at least one minute when you would open it and there was no option to shut it sooner. If you pressed the button to open the door again it just stayed open longer.
In addition to this, we did not get an evening room service as promised. This left us without clean towels in the morning. Since the service was expected, the towel I had used the day before was on the floor.
The room itself was very small, not what the images show at all. In addition to this, we asked the front desk for ice, and you could not get ice on own your own. We waited 45 minutes in the room and never got any ice.
Finally, the elevators took at least 5 minutes to get to your floor.
I have stayed hundreds of nights at Marriott’s and have been a titanium elite for several years. I have not wrote a single bad review until this one. I will never go back to this hotel and am thoroughly disappointed.

Disappointing visit
Touted as a Marriott property, this has been less than an stellar stay.
Although we don’t have a need for a handicap room, we were given one.
That’s fine, but having had travelled with my in-laws before, who did need handicap access, I was surprised how small the room was and wondered how someone with such needs could maneuver in the room or bathroom.
Also, the windows are too this. The street noise was so loud, my son thought the window was open. I would expect this level of room in a hotel with a number in the name, not with something that carries the Marriott name.
We went to the presentation, where they tried to sell us a vacation plan, which was good, but having this property as an example of what is available to me, if I buy into the program, is not putting you best foot forward.
Very Dissapointed
We are long time Marriott Owners and had the opportunity to stay at this venue when Marriott Vacation Club first took over. There were promises at the time of massive renovations so we were excited to come back a couple of years later to see all of the new amenities.
Although the rooms have been modestly updated, they lost their only restaurant which had a reputation for a nice breakfast and dinner…now you get coffee and have to walk the neighbourhood to eat.
The staff is friendly and helpful but very casual (most everyone in jeans everyday).
Security is also insufficient and we saw many a “security guard” off in a corner looking at their phone.
There are two European style elevators covering 20 floors so be prepared to wait.
Their top local attraction (The Top of The Strand) rooftop bar is nice but seems to be constantly booked for private parties during prime times of the day.
We recently stayed 5 days on points and actually ended up using more points to stay at the JW Marriott Essex House just to get a break from the Pulse.
I am just thankful we did not purchase additional points at this location.
If you are a MVC owner you have much better alternatives in the city using MRP’s or paying even the local rack rate.
Not up to the usual Marriott Standard
We’ have stayed in many Marriott city hotels. We are also Marriott Vacation owners.
We were really disappointed with this hotel. We expected a smaller room due to being in NYC but the size was shocking.
First of all, there were 3 of us, our child is 18.
There wasn’t enough room for luggage storage.
The only chair was squashed into a corner behind the tv system. The beds were comfortable.
The bathroom had minimal storage.
Also we had broken light and the bathroom door was off it’s rails.
Upon arrival we were greeted, however for the rest of our stay we didn’t get a Hello or acknowledgment from any of the front office staff apart from the doorman when he was on duty.
The roof top bar which Marriott likes to highlight, is not open to under 21. Therefore is not an option for traveling families. It also has an opening roof which does not seal properly so be prepared to be very cold during the winter. Also, if you visit in the day time (it isn’t open) you can see that it is in dire need of redecoration.
We brought drinks back from the bar and to our amazement all the glasses were still 3 days later. The cleaning staff left everything.
We spoke to the front office staff to say we’d like to talk to a manager and were told we would get a call back. That didn’t happen. We also completed the Marriott survey after our stay and listed our issues, confirming that we would like to be called back regarding our comments. We also did not hear back.
Honestly, if this was the first Marriott Vacation Property I had stayed at I would guarantee it would be the last.
Ahhh NO!
Will not return here. My husband
Travels worldwide and we have stayed at many many Marriotts. This was the worst.
It used to be another hotel (strand). The bar/coffee area has no insulation and it was freezing. The staff was freezing! Seriously, could they insulate the back room even temporarily. No ideas why not.
One of the staff told us that Marriott doesn’t have many restaurants world wide. Ahhh NO.
We have stayed at Marriotts all over the world. Some have amazing restaurants. Staff needs to be more informed. We don’t expect much in terms of space in manhattan but we didn’t even have a chair to sit on. We usually stay downtown as my husband works there but we were at a concert at MSG. Never again
