AVOID TIMESHARE SCAM
While on a visit for the day we were approached by Babs from Blackpool on the pretence that we could get a holiday for half price, two scratch cards were produced and I won a bottle of wine and my partner won a prize worth a minimum of £120 or cash equivalent, we just needed to sit through a presentation no longer than 90 minutes and we were guaranteed by babs that we did not have to pay anything up front but could save 50% off a holiday
We were ushered up the hill to the office where we were introduced to Stuart, who reeked of stale alcohol so bad that I offered him some mints! He started to show us around the place and eventually stopped for a drink and take some details. They wanted us to pay up front £2400 for the next six holidays. This was clearly timeshare and I really don’t need a bottle of wine or a mystery prize that much so ended the presentation there and then.
WORST HOTEL EVER! Full of cockroaches and horrible staff
We arrived at this hotel after staying in the Parque Del Sol for a week which is a 5 minute walk along the road. When we arrived the reception staff told us the room which we had booked with our timeshare was not as big as the room they were going to give us.
They took us all the way through the complex to Los Olivios which is the hotel next door.
They were linked but Los Olivos was a different complex. When arriving in our room there was a damp, musty smell. The room was very big (2 bed, 2 bath) but there was not much furniture to fill it. It was also very dark. There was a manhole and a drain in the middle of the kitchen and in one bathroom we found a cockroach bigger than any we had EVER seen before.
We have been to tenerife several times and seen them but they are usually no more than 1.5 inches.
This was almost the size of my hand. We used up a few cans of bug spray and kept all plugs in the sink holes and all windows closed. The balcony was unuseable as there was cat droppings all over it.
We spent one night there and the next day found the room with our timeshare where we were supposed to stay and found it was empty.
After a lot of complaining and arguing with the staff we were given our rightful room. They would not have given it to us if it weren’t for guests arriving in the lobby.
We packed up straight away and instead of walking the long way around we dropped our cases over the balcony wall. The wall was waist height and lead to a quiet lane off the street. Not very safe as anyone could have broken in.
We arrived at our new room and it was much nicer. Over looking the pool, everything was much brighter and cleaner. We couldnt use the balcony though as it was a groundfloor balcony and had a muddy looking garden on it.
There was no room to sit out there and after seeing the size of the cockroach we did not feel comfortable sitting there. This room was FULL of small cockroaches. Mostly baby ones but they were still horrible. It was too scary to leave the windows open so it was very warm in there.
The pool area was not the best, it was all on a hill so sunbeds would not sit right and there wasn’t a lot of sunbeds.
The pool itself was murkey and shaded in parts.
Luckily it is in an excellent location for the beach and restaurants but unfortunately this is all it has going for it.
I would never reccomend this place to anyone and you couldn’t pay me to stay here again.
There are lots of other apartments in the area. Parque Del Sol is lovely and only 5 minutes walk along the road. We have stayed there three times.
So far, not impressed
I am at the resort right now. Evidently booking 6 months early and being a timeshare owner, plus notifying both the resort and the timeshare company that we’d check in one day late, meant that wherever we were supposed to stay (a 2 bedroom “apartment”) was booked.
We (3 people were sent to a basic tiny motel room accommodation, I believe it’s called a studio). Yes it has a patio–looking out to the street and right next to reception, it does have a kitchenette kind of area, and a ceiling fan for cooling.
The sofa provides the only seating in the main room–so if the three of us want to sit somewhere different than the beds, we get to get cozy on the couch.
I’m told we’ll be in this room until Monday (tomorrow) when we can talk to the reservations manager and figure out something for our accommodations.
I will also contact the timeshare company tomorrow to find out what they plan to do when their locations overbook and owners are schlepped to a motel room.
Seen better days condo in a great location
I have to say, after reading all the reviews upon our arrival to Lagos de Fañabe, I was less than thrilled to begin our vacation there.
We arrived from Madrid around 1 am with two very tired children. I was happy to arrive and not have to ward of any cockroaches…though a dead one was found during our week long stay. I was not happy to sleep on the hardest bed I have ever slept on in my entire life.
I woke up each morning with what felt like bruising from the hard bed. The condo appears to not have been updated, nor any major repairs and maintenance, since the 1980’s. It was apparent that things, like countertops and leaking roofs, had been broken or a problem and a band aid solution had been applied to “get by”.
As timeshare owners ourselves, we would be highly disappointed to see that the money we paid for property and maintenance fees resulting in a property to look like Lagos de Fañabe. I do have to say that the location was excellent and we would return to this area in a heartbeat.
The grounds of the resort were really nice. The pool areas were very relaxing and well groomed. The Internet was spotty, at best. We chose to go to Los Olivos, the connecting resort, for Internet use.
