Misrepresented as 4 star - it is a Hostel for student groups
I had the misfortune to exchange my 2 bedroom 5 star timeshare townhouse for a 1 bedroom apartment (111) at this hotel. It was a disaster.
The hotel is in desperate need of refurbishment.
The apartment was cold. The TV was very old. The fridge and microwave did not work properly.
The bed linen and towels were old and the pillows were lumpy.
I was so unhappy I moved out to a 5 star hotel in Valletta for two nights to get some sleep and comfort.
The hotel in is full of students on budget holidays so very noisy. I have written to the Maltese Tourist Authority and made a formal complaint. They have replied and are looking into the rating of this hotel.
Think Twice
Just returned from this hotel and although the staff were lovely the hotel is dark depressing and has no umbrellas at the pool. The wi fi does not work at the pool only at the reception area. After paying for a 4* hotel I was very disappointed to be in what I would only give at most 2*. Our room was next to what used to be another dining/entertainment room where although the glass doors were closed the roof tiles where missing old mattresses were piled up and some washing was hanging.
The Jacuzzi was old and grubby the carpet mouldy it looked as if it had not been used in a long time (years) The Sauna was in the same state of repair.
The room was so dark you had to out the light on to read and the balcony looked into what I would describe as a chimney.
I had read the reviews before booking but found out that the reviews has came from the only decent rooms in this hotel and those were the one’s that had been redecorated on the 6th floor and are being given over to Timeshare.
We managed to get moved to another hotel thanks to the travel company rep, if we did not get moved I would have came home early it was so depressing.
Not up to scratch
An indication of the state of this rundown and depressing hotel was that during the whole of my stay in June the front doors were not working and a chair was stuck in front of them to block entry, which was only by the suitcase ramp. This is a hotel that has seen better days and is certainly not a 4 star establishment, only a 2 at best.
To catalogue my complaints:
My room, lit only by a communal light well, needed all the lights on during the daytime. If the window into the light well was opened, the staff’s cigarette smoke came in. The room was depressing. The air conditioning only blew air around, there was no cooling. Even the public areas of the hotel were uncomfortably warm and humid and it was dark – more lights needed.
The staff, with the exception of the tour company lady, seemed demoralised, sullen and subdued.
The lifts were decrepid and worryingly jolting and noisy.
The swimming pool had no sunshades and was smaller than it appeared in photographs.
The deposit of 35 euros and charge of 1 euro per day for the use of the safe seemed penny pinching.
Part of the hotel is a timeshare, which appear to have better rooms.
Plus points:
Very convenient location.
Lovely view from rooftop.
My room kept spotlessly clean.
Breakfast was passable. I was only on B and B, but other guests told me they regretted being on half board.
Summary: One of a number of substandard hotels in this area of Malta. Because it is often fully booked by package and independent tourists, it does not need to improve its standards. I shall definitely not be staying there again.
You’d get real luxury if you stayed in a tent rather than this place!
It is more like a 2* star in Clacton (sorry Clacton!). No way is it 4*! Reception and dining areas are looking very tired and scruffy. Rooms are very basic. In addition they are trying to run a dodgy timeshare business from here. Receptionists are incredibly miserable! I wouldn’t stay here if it was the last place on earth.
no heat and poor food
Dont believe everything you read in the description. there is no car parking unless you take your chance with everyone else in malta and park on the road ( very little space). Some staff very helpful some very unhelpful.
Our allocated room ( paid extra for balcony- it had two both only had room for one person) was clean but worn out. The curtains were actually fraying all down the edges. furniture sparse both in rooms and lounges and very uncomfortable.
Our room was cold and draughty. we complained several times, as did other residents, and were fobbed off several times. Each room has a wall mounted heating/aircon unit which generally blows cold air whatever you set it at. Several complaints later they sent up the housekeeper, who after seeing my other half fully clothed in bed and still cold, decided to offer us another room. this one was a bit warmer but not much. No balcony here, just a six foot square chimney bottom, where you had to look vertically up to see any sky.
Still it was warmer. My bed had seen better days and did nothing to support me. Pillows were of poor quality those filled with little lumps of multicoloured foam.Sheets and towels were clean and changed regularly. Don’t expect to enjoy much TV if you stay here. we had three different tvs and other residents reported not being able to whatch anything at all.
Unfortunately for us we had booked half board. Breakfast and evening food was lacking in choice and of poor quality and we ate out quite a few evenings. Food was put out at six pm and was still there in the warmers at nine o’clock only three of which were working.
We were disgusted to see at least ten different “timeshare” touts one of whom we had seen on a program about them in Tenerife. Obviously just moved his office! We saw numerous ‘victims’, mostly older people being shown the rooms in this hotel they could timeshare! One of them actually moved us from our seats in the reception area saying it was his ‘office’. needless to say they got short shrift when they tried to approach us. They are lucky they left us alone after we refused to be duped.
The only positive things here is the location and the efforts of the cleaning staff. Also the young men on reception, who were all very helpful. the same cannot be said of the ladies, who were patronising and very unhelpful.
