Disappointing
We went there for a tour as we bought a vacation package and was told that if we attended the tour we would receive our cash back + $100 Holiday Inn rebate.
However, we didn’t receive anything. We stayed there for almost 3 hours, which was even longer than required, coz the representative was trying very hard to sell the ownership to us. We told them that we had another thing scheduled that we needed to leave, and they just let us wait over there for whatever reason. The representative was saying she was going to pick up the gift package for us…but how come it took for almost half an hour to do that…so we left as we didn’t know at that time that it was the cash back and rebate.
After we came back from the trip, we called to IHG club vacation centre to inquire about the “gift”, however, they told us there is nothing they can do, the only way for us to resolve this is to call the holiday inn club vacation at smokey mountain. We called multiple times, there were few times someone finally answered the calls, but we were then transferred to other extension and ended up with a voice mailbox. well, there was one time that a girl picked up the phone asking my name and phone number saying she will look into this and reply to my phone. nothing happened as of now…
not sure if it’s because we didn’t purchase the ownership, they didn’t want to keep their promise at all, or they just “forgot” to give us at that time…or it just took forever to prepare the “gift”. and now, we are not sure if they just ignore our call…
disappointing experience with them…
IHG Vacation Club is a total SCAM!
I was contacted by IHG a few months ago and told that for being such a loyal customer I was being given a unique offer. Basically, if I agreed to pre-pay $199, it included a 3 night stay to one of their top new resort locations (apparently there are seven across the U.S., including the one I hoped to stay at: Smoky Mountain Resort), and after the stay a $100 voucher to another stay at any IHG affiliate. Seemed like a great deal, and I thought it seemed fair given the many, many times I’ve stayed at IHG.
What was not made clear on this first phone call was that my wife and I had to attend a minimum 2 hour timeshare to consider buying into their new resort plan. I learned this when I called to book the dates for our stay. I also learned that we would not even be staying at the main resort in Gatlingburg, but a different (less expensive) IHG Express.
I asked to get a refund and was directed to customer service via email. When they eventually got back to me, and I explained my frustrations and asked for a refund, the wrote back that I would be getting no refund and provided little explanation. I’ve now realized several other people have been tricked by IHG Club Vacations – I hope you read this and avoid the same horrible situation and customer service.
I will avoid staying at any IHG or affiliate from now on!
No refund posted
We were scheduled to stay here through Orange Lakes Florida promotional deal. Due to the damage, we incurred from Hurricane Irma, we had to cancel. Wrote to cancel and was called and informed us we would get the $199 back plus the extra $87 we paid for a hotel other than the Smoky Mountain Vacation resort we ere told we would be staying. When I called to set up the dates, was told that we would be staying at Greystone Lodge instead and that is were the $87 was charged for beginning a prime time. To this date no refund on credit card. Very upset and going to write Holiday Inn Corporate.
Very disappointed in Holiday Inn... this is a scam
When making a reservation with Holiday Inn recently (one of three weeklong reservations), I was told that I qualified for some special promotion. Being that it is Holiday Inn/IHG, I thought they were above any kind of bad business practices. Anyway, I was told by someone that I could STAY AT the Holiday Inn Club vacation in Gatlinburg-Smokey Mountain for this $199 deal, and get the money back if I just gave them 2 hours on a Saturday morning. I am so mad at myself for even biting at this one. I know better. Anyway, I did it and after learning more about this deal, they will not refund my money now. I am now finding out that it is not to stay at this location, but at an area hotel… one of three in the area… and that I go over to this location (that I was led to believe I was staying at) for the 2 hour presentation. I’m sorry, but that is NOT what I was told on the phone. I have also clearly been told that this is not an exception, but that you never stay here unless you pay for some $400 package. It is not based on availability. I guess I will just go get my money back, but I am really disappointed in Holiday Inn and their practices with this. If they would just refund my $199, I would be happy, but they will not do it.
SCAM!!!!!
This review is also about the sales methods used. Our company books a lot of out of state employee trips with Holiday Inn and while on a phone call dealing with a booking issue as a valued customer they presented this offer- 3 night stay for $199. Sounded too good to be true but when they mentioned they were promoting property close to the Smokey Mountains I was interested. I quickly grasped it was timeshare sales but was assured there were no hidden costs etc.
Upon booking my dates for August I was told I could not shorten my stay to 2 days without paying an additional $400 bringing the cost up to $600 for the stay. I pointed out there are many nicer hotels in the area available for significantly less than that. The agent then agreed to move my “Presentation” up to day 2
I then mentioned my husband would not be on the trip whereupon I was told this would void the contract since as a married woman husband must be present. I booked and paid for this “package” I feel it is discriminatory just because I am female to require I have my husband with me. I asked what would happen if we had divorced or I was widowed since the booking…..must produce a certificate to prove it. Now that’s a hard sell LOL
I am publishing this review to warn others….I’m still surprised I fell for this scam but I guess since I was a “valued customer” I did not expect them to jeopardize future business with a scam. Needless to say, we will no longer use Holiday Inn for employee business bookings….disappointing.
Free three night stay promotion
My husband was offered this promotion and all we had to do was “IT WAS NOT A HIGH PRESSURE TIMESHARE SALES PROMOTION but rather a tour of the vacation resort facility.” Of course he said yes and thought it would be a nice anniversary getaway. Well it was more like a 2 hour high pressure sales pitch where they make you feel uncomfortable for saying no. Three people tried to convince us before they finally let us leave.
The first guy was nice until it got down to signing up for THIS AMAZING DEAL. When we tried explaining we just aren’t ready for extra payments for something that is a luxury at this point he wouldn’t accept the answer. Then he brought the manager over who offered to cut the price dramatically. Still we do not have the funding for this luxury right now in our life. After the manager left the first guy made comments about how we should have never come on this vacation in the first place if we were so worried about paying off debts. At this point we lost all respect for the sales staff. We came on this trip because of the free nights stay so we were able to afford it this time Buddy.
Then the third guy came who was considered the “quality survey guy” who for the third time was trying to convince us otherwise when we finally stopped saying anything other than NO.
FINALLY they let us leave and gave us incentive for the abuse ($249 cash).
If you can withstand some abuse and are ok with wasting 2 hours of your time and you have a good NO face, then by all means give this a go.
