Quaint cabins in need of repairs; could not unlock my cabin!
We’ve stayed here before, but this time things have gone downhill. I hope Holiday Inn Vacation Clubs will bring the property up to their high standards. It’s been sorely neglected by Silverleaf.
When I first arrived, I could not get the gate to open when following the instructions on the sign. They are supposed to have security, but I never saw anyone. I finally had to call the front desk for help. Even the desk clerk said he had trouble getting the gate to open.
During check in, I asked the clerks about local restaurants where we could get seafood, but not chains with frozen fish. Every time the lady would mention a place, the guy would tell her that restaurant was closed! Happened several times. Don’t the clerks keep up with local information to help guests? Apparently not!
Then, after we checked in, the desk clerks forgot to give us the keys to the unit! Then, after I drove back and got our keys, my key would NOT work, and the doorknob was very loose.
Maintenance came by the next morning to fix the problem. After much struggling and graphite, he got the key to work ONCE. I never got it to work the entire stay.
Then, every time we used the shower, the smoke detector would chirp. So annoying! Also, the upholstery needed a good deep cleaning. You could see the stains from body oils and God knows what else on the furniture. Yuck!
On the upside, we did enjoy the walking trails throughout the resort, as well as the peace and quiet during the week.
On the weekends, they rent the cabins for $50 a night to anyone with the money, and nobody tells the rowdys to quiet down after midnight! No respect for other people at all. I was so glad to see them go on Sunday morning!
Now, if we could just get WIFI in our units it would be awesome. As it is, you have to drive over to the resort check in office and sit in an uncomfortable noisy area to get any internet signal. Even cell phone coverage was spotty to none at the cabins.
Not Much To It
We were first to check in but the cabin wasn’t ready. 5 others checked in and got cabins before they decided to give us a cabin. We also spent 1.5 days without AC even after reporting it. Not much to do here.
Not very accommodating
Arrived early but was not allowed to check in just pre-register. Had taken my boat so we went out on the water to kill time till we could check in. While exiting my boat, according accidentally dropped truck keys into the water.
We were not going to be able to get another key fob to start the truck for at least two days. So we were stranded at the marina with our luggage. The Villages Resort across the street went out of their way to assist and even shuttled us to Lake O the Woods to check in. We were told they could help us get our luggage to our cabin so the Villages security left. Then we were told they wouldn’t be able to help us to our cabin. We had to lug all our luggage and grandchildren up and down Hills to our cabin.
I understand not carrying passengers but they could of helped get our luggage and things to the front door.
Had I told them I wanted to upgrade membership I bet they would have been more accommodating.
Dissatisfied customer
Our room was not appealing at all. Upon checking in we found rotten fruit behind the couch and on the floor in master bedroom and among other places. The bathroom did not look like it had been cleaned at all with urine around the bottom of the toilet and the carpet was very stained and gross, did not look sanitary at all. We planned to take the kids fishing and couldn’t since there was nowhere to fish so overall this place really needs to invest in the upkeep of the cabins and have more to offer families that go to make the most of their outdoors vacation.
Not a resort for Handicap folks.
If you like the woods and wilderness it’s ok. I asked for a handicap friendly unit both when I made the reservations and when we checked in. The unit they gave was up a hill and 7 steep steps My husband got half way up and lost his balance. when he grabbed the handrail he found it was broken. Luckily I was standing behind him We bought our unit at another silver leaf resort back in “91” and I don’t think they have been upgraded since. They moved us to The Villages which was a hassle but much better. Things that can be improved Listen when folks ask for handicap friendly, large flat screen TV’s, internet in units. and washers and dryers in units.
Stay away.
Had planned to stay three days here and after the first night should have gone home. We checked in around 8 on a Friday night after working all day and driving 2 1/2 hours. I thought it would be a nice quiet place to take the kids. We also took a niece who doesn’t get to go on trips hoping she would enjoy herself before school started. Man was I wrong. About 10:30 or so we decide to turn off the lights and call it a day. We put the kids to bed and my wife turn off the lights to go to sleep to. I went out on the porch to sit and drink a beer. I don’t think I was out there 10 mins before my wife ran out yelling at me to come in. I am thinking to kids are playing but she took me into the bedroom as guess what she showed me. Bed Bugs. A lot of bed bugs. The pics I have are nasty bugs that were all over the bed. Called the front desk and they came out to look and put us in a new cabin. Do you think we slept that night? No. They told us to leave all of our stuff in the room until morning when they could check to make sure it was bed bugs. Yep it was. So at around 8:30 the manager told us she would buy breakfast at I hop and refund us our money for the weekend and that they needed to clean all of our stuff. It would only take about 2 hours. Great. 3 hours later the only clothes we had were our night clothes so I had to go get breakfast 25 mins away in my sleeping shorts. The people at I hop just looking at me the whole time I was there. At about one we finally got our clothes. We had wasted most of our weekend by that time so I request free passes to the water park which we got but was told that couldn’t happen but bed bugs can happen. Well, we did get refunded for breakfast but never the weekend and after filling out a report for Silverleaf never even heard from them. So same your money and time stay away from this place. Even for free I would not go back. For about two weeks after everytime I was in bed and had a itch I turned on the light to check if we brought some home. Read up on bed bugs and see how hard it is going to be if you are that lucky to bring them home with you.
Very disappointing experience
We joined a couple from Washington for one night. They had booked a week in order to see Texas. Two days later, they had exhausted all but the Zoo, which is where we took them. This place is for families, but not for older couples wanting a place to base a tour.
The steps to the loft were quite steep and short. This made it dangerous for older ones who had to navigate the steps at night. The loft had a rod, but no hangers. The bathroom did not have any hooks for things. The floor in the bathroom sagged around the commode. Age had really taken its toll on the entire cabin. Since the cabin faced inward, there was a play area, but untreated poison ivy. The guests had to navigate the very wet and muddy trail from the cabin to the car.
As an RCI possibility, it was below par for the lodging, though really nice for the play area in front of the office.
Our friends checked out early because the place offered so little for their age group. We were also glad to leave after one night in the loft.
There was a porch, but no chairs.
