Holiday Inn Club Vacations Free Stay is a RIP OFF
I have been an IHG reward member for at least 5 years. About 3 weeks ago, I was booking a room and was asked to stay on the line and learn more about staying at one of the new Holiday Inn resorts for FREE. Originally, I thought it was a scam.
However, the young man continued to tell me this was not a scam.I pressed him several times to confirm that I would be staying at a Holiday Inn Resort of my choice. My husband and I decided to take our children to Florida for Spring Break next year, stay at the Holiday Inn Cape Canaveral and tour the resort. When I called to make the reservation, the operator again stated that the Cape Canaveral location was available.Once my reservation was confirmed, I bought the plane tickets. First, it took 2 weeks to receive a confirmation from Holiday Inn vacations. When I finally received the confirmation, much to my dismay, I AM NOT staying at the Holiday Inn Resort, I am staying at BEST WESTERN!!!! After calming down, and staying on hold for 20 minutes, I was finally able to speak to an operator. The operator informed me that the patron is not promised a room on the resort, but (for a fee) she could check into upgrading my family to the resort. To no end, I asked for a transcript of my original conversation and to speak to a manager. Both requests were refused. The call was finally rudely disconnected by VeronicaThis is a SCAM!!!!

Don’t take them for their word. Read the fine print. Better yet, run away!
Even though I have learned they are not affiliated with HI Worldwide, HI has lost me as a customer forever. I travel almost 48 weeks a year; see ya HI.
Cape Canaveral
We have been owners since 2004. We own a Lock Out Unit. We have at times traded with RCI but for the last 4 years have used our week at Cape Canaveral. Overall—I always enjoy our week because we love the beach and the Port. We bring our boat each year —is easy to launch at the Port. We live in central Florida, we love the location and it feels like a staycation to us.
Although we enjoy it—I would absolutely agree with others’ reviews stating “owners” are given ZERO preferential treatment. None. For 3 years I have made room requests and NEVER received my request. This year my ONLY request was to be on the 4th or 5th floor at the beach building. Nope—we were on 3rd. Forget beach view. Requested that for 2 years prior and never got it. I was pretty stunned I couldn’t even get an upper level floor request. I make reservations A YEAR in advance.
It is ridiculous to charge a fee for the towel exchange. I’ve never had this before. I washed my own towels. At least there is still a very small amount of free detergent offered. Agree with others about pool towels. Overflowing. Laying all over the pool area.
The building needs work. Very outdated. Carpet peeling away with huge wrinkles and folds in the middle of the floor. Beds uncomfortable. Toilet flush was so loud we
didn’t flush if anyone was sleeping.
Mould and dirt all over the outside of the door and walls leading to the room.
Beach buildings need constant maintenance and there doesn’t appear to have been much.
The entry gate to the beach building was a constant pain. The electronic key pad
at the gate works very poorly. Called on the key pad twice and never got an answer. Finally opened after about 5 minutes.
The gate was broken 4 times during the week we were there. You could probably put a friendly face in that Guard shack for less money than it costs to fix it.
The thing I despise the most is having to endure the sales pitch to pick up parking passes. If I want an owner update I’ll get one. I should not have to explain WHY I don’t want to go. Don’t. Want. To. Go.
Last time we went (2 yrs ago) we walked out after 2 hrs. I said I’d never go again and won’t. So please let my “no thank you, I’m not interested” be enough. Stop the pressure. Total turn off. Spend 20 minutes getting the parking passes.
Please hire more staff at the tiki bar. On July 4th at 4pm there was one person behind the bar. The lines were long all week and we often just gave up. Not that the folks weren’t working—there’s just not enough of them.
We won’t be back to the beach spot. There not any other Holiday Inn Vacation spots we care to visit. We will trade out with RCI in the future.
Holiday Inn needs to decide if they want to be in the hotel business or the timeshare business. Treat the owners a little better and you might see some positive reviews. From what I have read here—the good reviews are coming from hotel guests and those who might be potential buyers.
Love the location but won’t be back.
Watch the timeshare trap
Seemed like a good place to stay a few days but unfortunately, it was the worst experience of my life. Stay away from the lure of cheap attraction tickets in Cape Canaveral if you attend a presentation in the hotel on Timeshare.
The 3rd and final arm-twister in the hierarchy trying to sell timeshare after I explained why I could not commit at the moment I was totally humiliated by that person making me feel like a beggar for his measly discount coupon for the Space Center which in turn I refused the coupon.
In conclusion stay away from this timeshare trap
Absurd "Double-Cross" Ruins the Vacation!
I was sold a “package” on the phone where I needed to listen to a 2 hour presentation one of the days and also added 1 additional day by accident by making flights and car reservations with the assumption it was 4 nights (my bad).
We arrived and the appointment was set for the 3rd day in the afternoon and I went up to the presentation location at which point I was greeted and asked some questions including one I never expected. They were basic – who are you, income requirements, etc and then the final question was about alcohol. I answered honestly (and somewhat humorously) that I had some Baileys in my morning cup of coffee, and I felt like all the sirens and red lights started blaring and flashing and I was going to be carried out! -Like a bad Game Show! I actually thought they were kidding?
Long story short- They denied me the opportunity to attend the presentation but said I could reschedule later in the day or tomorrow by calling an 800 number – which I did.
Of course, after 2 hours of fumbling, I was very seriously advised that I had apparently violated some serious rule (really? Bailey’s coffee 6 hours earlier?) which I was never aware of. I guess it’s buried somewhere in the small print! And there were no other appointment slots available, so I’d have to pay retail for my stay and that was the end of it! (Welcome to Florida and Holiday Inn!!)
A helpful reservation representative named Daniella, was kind enough to try to soften the blow, so I give her credit, but what happened after our phone call and her kind of cryptic email, and my unanswered email response, was NOT what happened upon checkout. So, I sucked up the charges and determined that I would stick with my tried and true Hilton Diamond, and Marriott and Sheraton Gold statuses, and dump my Holiday Inn affiliation and simply stay where I am treated like the world traveler (and adult) that I am! I am resigning my IHG affiliation as a result of this incident! Period. Done.
Now, regarding the actual place… It is pleasant and located on the coast across the inlet from Cape Canaveral Launches and Cruise Ship Docking.
The beach is right there but this stretch of beach has very shallow water and virtually no activity other than from the 2 nearby hotels. The beach goes out and out forever, so not so good for swimming.
The place has the normal pools and a restaurant and pool facilities. The restaurant is under-staffed, when we sat for dinner we were told it would be a very long wait and it was over an hour sitting at our table.
The rooms are adorned with 4″ white shower tiles and Mexican floor tiles and rather inexpensive furnishings. You will note deteriorating bathroom cabinets and old moulded faux-marble sinks and basic builder level construction without upgrades. It’s fine for a short stay, but not “investment worthy” for long-term, in my opinion. Good enough for a few days certainly.
The real action is actually happening a few miles south in Cocoa Beach and there are many very good seafood restaurants and much more action in that area further south and that would be my next stay if I return to the area.
I leave the choice to you for you, but for me, this is a “no return trip!”
