Don’t stay here if you intend to sleep
Writing this from our hotel room at 3:00 in the morning. So upset I couldn’t wait until later.
This is our 5th New Years spent at Grand Geneva, and 2nd year in a row at the Holiday Inn. The idea of this place is great; larger, apartment-style lodging with use of all Grand Geneva amenities. There are problems, however.
1. We have been kept up ALL night for 3 nights in a row by the loudest neighbours ever. Not sure how many are in the room but they start partying at 11:30 and end at around 5 a.m. Loud music, screaming, etc. We’ve knocked repeatedly and we’ve called the hotel desk. The desk sent security to come and stop the noise. The guard had to knock 5 times the first night before they even heard him. When he comes they quiet down for 20 min then start again. Tonight it just sounds like they are opening kitchen cabinets and slamming them closed, over and over. It’d be loud in any event, but it’s exacerbated by the metal doors between our two units (to make adjoining rooms). The doors just seem to magnify the noise. WE HATE THE DOORS.
The reason we blame the hotel for this? After the first night, we asked to move rooms and were told none were available. Considering we looked online and see there IS availability, that stinks. We are a family of 5 and all of us are having a miserable stay. We missed our morning ski lessons yesterday b/c our kids were too tired to get up in the morning…and they are very early risers, believe me. $140 down the drain.
2. In 3 nights/4 days here, our room has not been cleaned and we haven’t even seen a cleaning cart to get extra toilet paper and shampoo. We finally went to the store and bought it ourselves.
We know New Years is a busy time, but if the hotel doesn’t have enough staff to keep up with the number of guests, then it shouldn’t book up all its rooms.3. Toilet keeps clogging…not fun for a family of 5.
Seriously, we have never had a worse hotel stay. Hate it here sooo much.
Can you give less than 1 star? Holiday Inn should be ashamed.
We purchased a timeshare through Holiday Inn Vacation Club. Can you say BIG mistake? This is our 4th experience and they keep getting worse! We arrived today and the condo was NOT as was represented.
This unit (standard one bedroom) is so small we were shocked. There is no dresser and only a built-in armoire with 8 hangers ( to hang a week’s worth of clothes for two people.) There is no place for your empty suitcase except in the bottom of the armoire, which presents a problem because now the clothes are hanging there.
Oh yes, there are two tiny night stands with tiny drawers so you can store your watch and car keys. If you are going to charge your iPad on the nightstand you are going to have to move the alarm clock to the floor to make room. There is no place to store your shoes so plan on tripping over them when you get up at night.
There is an upside in the kitchen. The RV sized refrigerator does have an ice maker! (So much more than we could have expected!) Really?…… Also, if you need a beer while you are sitting on the apartment sized couch, just lean over, you can practically reach it without getting up. Bright side! I just keep looking….
The unit is dated and in need of repairs. The grounds are maintained at an average to below average level. The building common areas are dirty. Overall, below lower than below-average.

Crooked Billing
Do not make reservations at this place — they will take your credit card number and immediately bill it before you even stay there.
I had made a reservation in advance and then cancelled within the allotted time. ‘Turns out I was a few minutes off after 6 PM and they billed me without notice. I appealed after I saw my credit card bill, I am a platinum elite member through Holiday Inn. I called the hotel — after I waited on hold for 20 minutes, they ignored me and transferred me to Holiday Inn customer service.
Holiday Inn sent me back to the ownership company. The ownership told me the cancellation policy is in fine print and part of the reservation. I made my cancellation 2 3/4 days in advance not 3 days in advance. My credit card company will be calling these crooks

I made a reservation via phone call Fri to book a reservation for the very next day Sat night I was sent a confirmation email .
When I went to check in I was told they had no rooms and there was nothing they could do for me, my husband and I had Dinner reservations at the Grand Geneva we were told there was nothing they could do ” sorry ”
I drive 2 hours and planned a nice night with my husband it was ruined!
Horrible customer service if they overbooked they should have called me, emailed me or found another hotel in the area for us – The Grand Geneva wouldn’t even give us a drink for the inconvenience! I did however get us a room at The Abbey Resort and will for sure be staying with The Abbey every time now – I was so upset when we got to the Abbey they felt my pain gave us a bottle of champagne and strawberry on the house AND gave us free breakfast
Nice Property - Awful Experience with Reservations
The resort location and amenities are very nice. Unfortunately, the service -specifically by Holiday Inn— is the worst we have ever experienced with this caliber of hotel. I travel extensively for business and have many, many experiences to benchmark against. Upon making reservations (cannot be made direct with the hotel) through a 3rd party – I requested a late checkout (check-out time is 10 am which doesn’t accommodate the relaxing weekend we were anticipating). The reservation agent was on the phone with me for some time and indicated he was in communication with the property. The information I received was that they would extend checkout until 2 pm – with no additional charge and a $40 charge would be incurred if we wished to stay until 4 pm. The agent suggested that I remind the staff at check-in of the special request.
We arrived to the property after midnight and checked in with an employee of Grand Geneva Resort who could not verify the request, but suggested that I call “Dawn” (Holiday Inn agent) the next day around 9:30 am. I did in fact call Dawn and was met with an “anti-service” attitude. I explained the situation and was told that although she was aware of my request, it had been refused and that Expedia (3rd Party) was notified to contact me with the refusal. I asked Dawn what my options were — 1/2 day rate? Book another night? She indicated that she could not help me with any reservations and that housekeeping would be at our door within the half hour to prepare the room for other guests that would be arriving.
I contacted Expedia – they did not have any notes indicating a refusal and indicated that “Barb” from the Holiday Inn had approved the special request. I went back to Dawn – who indicated that they did not have an employee named Barb. I asked Dawn if we could stay in the same room if we were to book another nights stay — and she shared that she could/would not guarantee that and that we may need to change rooms. Obviously, I cannot pinpoint whether the error was with Expedia or with Holiday Inn — but I can share that Dawn was the least helpful agent through the whole process and was not solution focused, but rather conveyed what could not be done–and made the whole ordeal at a top-notch resort more stressful that necessary. With an additional $250 investment we were able to stay until 4 pm, in the same room. While we are likely to return to the Grand Geneva Resort, we will NOT be giving the Holiday Inn any repeat business.
First Wedding Anniversary Trip, BIG Disappointment!!
My husband and I decided to go to the Holiday Inn Club Vacations @ Grand Geneva for a 3 night getaway to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary. The only reason I even gave this place 2 stars is because the Grand Geneva was a nice property with excellent staff and services. However, the Holiday Inn building is completely separate (not even walking distance) and is for lack of a better word, a DUMP! We stayed in building 5, 4th floor and I wanted to leave the moment we walked in our room.
We were supposed to have a “Deluxe Room” with a whirlpool. What we got was a small, shabby room with dirty carpet, stained, low ceilings and lots of flying bugs. The plates had crusty food on them in the cupboard, the room was not what we were shown in pictures and not what we reserved. I called the club 800 number because the front desk said that they couldn’t help us. When I called they also told me that they couldn’t help us and that all Deluxe rooms were booked because of . . . .Columbus Day! Who celebrates Columbus Day?! This room was actually depressing, that’s how bad it was. The cable was basic (not even expanded basic like we have at home) and the walls are so thin you could hear your neighbors TV and them laughing at it. The resort had many activities but we weren’t able to partake in any of them because everything cost $50.00-100.00 for a couple, Horse back riding, the water park, everything and that was in town as well. Lake Geneva is a HUGE rip off. NOTHING is included at this place accept the indoor/outdoor pool (don’t go in cooler months as there is only 1 indoor pool and it is nothing special) and hot tub. This trip was so awful that we left a night early.
Be warned this place is disgusting and unless you have A LOT of spending money you cannot go do the activities you would need to do to make up for it. We spent 200.00 on our anniversary meal at The Geneva Chop House and that was normal. Save yourself the headache and money and go to The Lake Lawn Lodge if you want to be in the Lake Geneva area. It is beautiful, affordable and way more enjoyable! Lesson learned! Oh and 1 other fun little thing, The 36$ cleaning charge collected at the end of your stay. Wonder what they spend that on as the room was a -1 out of 5.
