Really Unhappy With Service
We were looking forward to our evening dinner.
We work very hard in our jobs and look really forward to our break.
Unfortunately, the experience at the Pesto restaurant downstairs at Brockwood Hall was far from good The atmosphere was awful, the service awful we waited over 40 minutes for our food. We also waited at the bar to pay for food a further 15 minutes.
When I did get served and asked why did we have to wait so long I had a rude reply. “We have only got 3 members of staff in to serve the 3 restaurants and one chief in.
We also have the rotary club in the Clara’s. No apology just excuses for being short staff I am not happy at all with this response.
Very bad experience
Our accommodation was a two bedroom “chalet” booked as a timeshare exchange through RCI.
We found the whole venue to be in desperate need of a major upgrade.
The exterior of our chalet was very shabby and the windows were filthy. As it had been raining the decking was green and lethally slippery.
Although internally the facility was adequate our premium lodge had badly stained dining chairs.
The so-called nature trail to the badger’s sett was blocked by old discarded baths and other rubbish.
Mothers day ruined!
Just been to Brockwood hall as I booked a table for 4 for mothers day, walked in and gave my name, the place looked lovely and was looking forward to a nice meal. I’d booked to have a look round the grounds ( a promotion they had) I phoned through the week to let them know my husband couldn’t make it and said my mam would be coming instead and if it was a problem to phone me, I never got that phone call.
I emailed them to ask for a mother’s day menu and was sent one, on the email it said must book as filling up fast, so I phoned and booked for 4, only to be told there was no booking when I got there, and we couldn’t have the walk round because my husband wasn’t there! The staff communication is nil!
Booked a lovely mothers day lunch for my mam whom is having chemotherapy and its the first day out she’s had in ages and it was ruined! The lady who served us drinks literally made me out to be a liar, her attitude stinks, what a terrible way to run a hotel. I drove 30 miles to get there too! If I could have given no stars I would have!!!
Not good!!!!!
Family holiday for 1 week in elterwater lodge ruined by paint fumes. No other available lodges. Family members I’ll with nausea and breathing problems. The lodge itself was not a bad size but in need of an upgrade in the furniture.
Dining room table broke, my son fell through one of the dining room chairs. Shower tray cracked.
And the dust was inches thick under the sofas which had also seen better days.
Swimming pool out of action, nothing to do on the site.
Missed welcome meeting and cheese and wine due to illness ( nausea caused by paint fumes) all in all not a good holiday came home a day early as one of the family members I’ll.
I would not go again sorry Brockwood hall. But I will say that the food was good and the staff friendly
Dreadful Experience
We exchanged our timeshare for a week at Brockwood Hall – what a mistake!! We departed after just 2 nights. We had been allocated the Brotherswater Lodge, the only one it seemed with the balcony facing directly into the woods, top lights needed at all time in the lodge would have been nice to have a few lamps to soften lighting, but nothing like that, very sparse and basic.
But wait for it – quick look round the unit and what did we find – PUBIC HAIRS in the shower – gross!!! Did not instil us with confidence regarding the cleanliness of the place.
Nearest place to find a shop is Millom, staff in the local Tesco were nicer than those at Brockwood.
Every time I went to reception there was never anyone there – Why? – because they were always outside smoking. The staff can see who comes to reception through a patterned glass door that leads outside to their “smoking area”, they then proceed to leave their ciggie in the ashtray, come straight through to reception breathing smoke all over you!! Lovely !!
Went to reception 1.30pm on Sunday, usually, wait for staff, wanted to double check time for lunch. The receptionist told me lunch finished at 2pm. I said I was nipping back to the lodge and would be back in 10 minutes which we were, she said that would be fine. My husband went in 10 minutes later to get the menus and was told by the young male receptionist that lunch was no longer being served!
Unbelievable – I went in and had the usual wait and the same male receptionist came from the back door – I asked again what time lunch was served, he reiterated 12-2pm, then added chef had packed up early today as they weren’t busy. I was aghast and told him so. He then proceeded to be really obnoxious towards me. “What do you want me to do, do you want to me go and cook you something then?”. I can’t portray his attitude by just typing. He shrugged his shoulders and started muttering and tutting at me. I pointed out that it was still only 1.50pm by this time, again a shrug of the shoulders. I said it was unacceptable and his attitude to me was totally unacceptable. What sort of customer care was he portraying? Zero.
The next day I went back to reception to ask for a map of the area (again a wait for the smokers!) No free maps, had to buy a book instead, no big deal. But just no help from reception staff at all, no suggestions, nothing at all.
Decided there and then, didn’t want to stay in such a hostile environment so decided to go home – a 5 hour journey I hasten to add.
On departure I went in and was presented with electricity bill – £12.66, which was ok until I got home and realised that had been charged from Friday – I rang Brockwood and said was not arriving till Saturday evening. So the automatic system of check in check out that the duty manager has quoted on the previous comment is clearly unreliable.
Reception didn’t ask why I was checking out after only 2 nights, had everything been ok?, they said absolutely nothing. Gave me the bill, took my key and that was that!
Was never so relieved to leave a place. Would never return.
I am sure that Mr Duty Manager will no doubt be posting a reply to this and covering everything with reasons why but take my word for it – it is not worth a visit!
Disappointing accommodation
The surrounding area is interesting (but a long way from any lakes) and the staff at the resort are very pleasant and helpful. But if, like us, you stay here on an RCI timeshare exchange it is poor value for the points charged and the additional costs involved.
The resort has recently been bought by Aroma and all their representatives say is that they are soon going to refurbish and upgrade it as well as building more lodges. Unfortunately, more lodges will make the already limited bar and restaurant facilities even more cramped.
Our lodge was small, dark, uncomfortable and very poorly equipped. The appliances (in particular TV, DVD player and toaster) did not work properly and we were given only 3 sets of towels for a week even though the lodge was supposed to sleep 6 people.
At the end of our stay we had to challenge the charge made for electricity as it bore no resemblance to the meter reading in our lodge.
All in all, this was a disappointing stay in an attractive and interesting area. Over the past 10 years we have had many timeshare exchange holidays but because of the poor accommodation, this was probably our worst experience.
Beware of the Good Reviews
Awful, dismal and the food was mediocre – those are the good aspects. The staff did their best but were poorly paid (according to one honest soul) and not really trained well.
This place is a terrible example of a throwback to MVI / timeshare fiascos.
There are many other places to go to in this area. Avoid this one. It needs money putting into it – the money you give must be going to the management to fund their lifestyles
