Sorry but I must have been in a different place
I felt Vilar do golf was a disappointment.
The complex was Ok but the apartment we were in was very old fashioned and tiny with awful furniture and a very hard mattress The approach and stairs up to it hadn’t been brushed for many a week I would guess, and it seemed to be in a total time warp.
Bobby Jones restaurant and bar was nice enough but there are lots of lovely places down in Quinta or on the roads out that we tended to go out. It was quite a long walk to the pool complex thought nice shady pine trees
All in all it took me back to Eurocamp sites in France over 20 years ago when our children were very young.
If this had been one of those campsites I would have rated it highly.
However as a destination in one of the best and most upmarket parts of the Algarve a disappointment.
Spend a little more and try one of the Four Seasons complexes across the road.
Both are much nicer for not a lot more money

Nice place but lots of extra charges.
Just finished a one week stay at Vilar Do Golf. We stayed in a 2 storey, 2 bed Villa. On the plus side, the area is very nice, the villas are kept to a high standard and are well equipped.
However, on the day we were due to arrive we contacted Vilar do Golf and asked about the check-in time. We were told 4pm and that there was an early check-in charge of €20 if we wanted to check-in early.
When we were checking-in later that day we were informed that there was a daily charge of €10 per villa to use the indoor pool or a daily €12 charge which included the gym. We explained that this extra charge was not mentioned on the booking site and we were told: “It didn’t say it was free either”. We were informed the outdoor pool was free but that isn’t really an option with the weather in April.
The Wifi is €6 a day and its €2 a day to use the safe.
The washing machine was broken. It was replaced after a few hours of them testing it. We had to stay in the villa while this happened.
While we had a good stay at Vilar do Golf I was very disappointed with all of the extra charges especially for use of the indoor pool. They should be very clear about these charges at the time of booking. It does not leave a very good impression.
Terrible experience
I booked this hotel with Booking.com and had to cancel due to personal family reasons.
Unknown to me Booking.com had duplicated my booking along with my credit card details and I have been charged for the stay.
I told the hotel but they advised me it is Boooking.com fault and refuse to reimburse me.
It is a shame as I probably would have gone there at a later date as we visit Portugal a few times a year.
Not very happy with the outcome and will be taking the matter further.
Don’t do it if you want a beach holiday
Travelled to Vilar do Golf last month – 4 adults and 1 child. Beautiful surroundings and accommodation
HOWEVER –
– You do need to hire a car!
– Resort bus to the nearest beach but once there, there are no facilities to eat or drink – there is a restaurant but you need to book. Cost 75 euro for 4 sunbeds and 2 shades – a priority for these given to the local hotel.
– If you have any mobility problems or breathing difficulties this is NOT the resort for you. It is set out like a town, whilst being beautiful, it is very hilly.
-There are 3 food areas but the menu is very limited – hotdog, burgers or cheese toasties – all with chips. Too far to walk to any nearby town. Stock your kitchen well!
– Remember this is a golf resort, as is every other hotel on this road
– Lovely pool area, plenty of sunbeds, nice indoor pool and jacuzzi
– If you prefer a beach holiday this place is not for you.
– If you like being tied to resort and to eat in every meal then you will enjoy this place.
Couldn’t wait to get home
What’s with the pay electric, you found yourself cutting back because you had no idea what the cost was going to be. The place was cold so no choice but to clock in electric. The cold air was blown all over the place, the bathroom was cold and damp, no air so condensation. The gym and pool so far from the room so drove down there to find sauna always closed and no attendant.
Debbie the activity guide was brilliant, lovely, pleasant and knowledgeable about the area. They gave me a discount because I complained about the cold.
