Friendly staff, great value for money and lovely quiet location
Had a lovely stay at diamond resorts in November, staff were friendly and helpful on arrival. We stayed in Apartment 44 which was clean and spacious.
It had 2 bedrooms, one with 2 single beds than the other with a king size bed and en-suite with jacuzzi bathtub.
There are 2 supermarkets on site which do fresh bread, pastry ’s, fruit and veg as well as stuff we can get at home like Bisto gravy, Yorkshire puddings, uncle bens rice. The smaller supermarket dose cooked chickens to pre-order and the bigger supermarket dose fresh home cooked meals to heat up like chicken and mash, and paella. Very good value for money, you can get the bus from the bus stop Just a 1 minute walk down the road from the complex which takes you to Los Cristiano’s, and it’s very easy to get a bus back from
The bus station for just €1.80
There are 2 restaurants on site, and a few about a 10 minute walk away, we found an area called San bliss which was a 10 minute walk and had shops and restaurants including Indian and Caribbean. I’d recommend going to Los Cristianos or Adeje for big white sandy beaches, but there’s a local one which is pretty cute by the marina.
There is also an Internet cafe by the marina which is handy.
There were plenty of places to sunbath at the Royal Tenerife country club, there were vending machines on site as well as a tank to fill up water and a spa and gym. Would definitely stay again, just waiting for my deposit to be refunded. ;)
Golf del sur is the perfect place to visit for a quiet relaxing holiday and it’s very easy to visit the more busier places

A 3 star experience on a timeshare resort
Every picture, unfortunately, does not tell a story.
After checking the websites in Tenerife South we found The Royal Tenerife Country Club. A very grandiose title indeed! Photos on the website looked great and the resort appeared to have apartments with modern rooms, a location close to golf courses, a tennis court and 2 restaurants.
We arrived at night time, and had to wait ten to fifteen minutes while the receptionist sorted out someone’s wifi.
Eventually, the friendly receptionist checked us in. We were both exhausted after the journey but had to wait while he told us of all the extras we would have to pay for.
After leaving the reception and twenty minutes lugging suitcases around, we eventually found our apartment which looked pretty dreary at night time.
At that point, we were considering cutting our losses and trying to find alternative accommodation the following day.
Perhaps a meal and a couple of drinks would help? We headed straight to the poolside restaurant where loud eighties style music was being played (Ghostbusters, the only tune I recall). There was no menu as it was barbecue night. You could take it or leave it. A plate of pork and a very tough sausage was served. The other restaurant on site is closed at weekends!
In the light of day, the following morning, the apartment proved to be adequate, and comfortable, but the bathroom was old and badly in need of refurbishment.
There is an old stained jacuzzi bath. A bad odour (a bit akin to rotten eggs) developed when the jacuzzi was switched on, to be followed by some black particles mixing with the water.
After reporting it to the manageress it appeared the bath was washed (but the odour remained).
We were fortunate to have a view of the neighbouring golf course but as the first week was very windy we were not able to make full use of our balcony.
We’d met some people who had been moved to an upgraded apartment so we requested the same. We were told, however, that this was not possible as all the refurbished apartments were reserved for timeshare members.
Facilities at the resort are adequate but the tennis court has a concrete surface which has some cracks in it – some very odd bounces indeed!
Some members of the staff were helpful and friendly, for example, the cleaning staff, the security guard and the staff in the small store.
With regard to other dining options, the nearby Amarilla golf club has a pretty good, informal clubhouse which has reasonable food at reasonable prices.
For an evening out, however, there are some pretty good restaurants in Los Abrigos (a 5-minute taxi ride away). Our favourite was Taverna del Mar.
This is a small family run restaurant, with very good seafood and steak a la plancha.
To summarise, therefore, the Royal Tenerife Country Club is fine if you know what to expect, and if the price matches. It has a 3 star feel about it and is certainly not a luxury resort.

We came to the royal Tenerife country club (AKA San Andreas) for a last-minute relaxing break. We are not golfers but hoped there might be a few restaurants etc in the area and a nice country club for a few evening drinks…. there wasn’t.
The apartment we had was overlooking the 2nd hole and airport It was a good size and had most of what we needed but, like the rest if Golf del Sur, has seen better days. The sunbed pads were torn, burn marks in the sofa, the handle dropped off the vanity table drawer, the curtains didn’t quite close… nothing terrible, just worn & due for a refurb.
The resort was also tired and the country club bar was dark, dingy and unwelcoming. In the town was a million Indian restaurants, a few English chicken and chips type places – nothing exciting.
We wouldn’t return, but for golfers, its probably an option – family can play by the pool while you enjoy a round and its really close to the airport. But for non-golfers, I’d recommend looking towards Los Christianos/ Los Gigantes further up the coast.
Please be aware the wind is really strong and it can be deceivingly chilly, but the sun will still frazzle you to a crisp,

Better known to locals as San Andres Residences
The resort is only a portion (~50%) of the San Andres Residential properties. The unit I was in was well appointed and comfortable. The concierge staff were great.
Located in Gulf Del Sur, it is difficult to find as it goes by two names and requires a complete drive through Gulf Del Sur to gain access due to one-way roads.
The runway to the South Airport is VERY close and there is considerable landing and takeoff noise. It can be quiet for a few hours, then depending on the day 10+ planes per hour. Generally quiet after 10 pm.
The pool bar is not part of Diamond Resorts and purchases cannot be charged to your room. The Resort restaurant overlooks the parking lot. Never went there, not appealing to me. Too many restaurants within walking distance of the resort. Nice pools but rather cool this time of year. One pool is heated so it can get crowded at times.
Parking can be problematic so make sure you include a parking space reservation. Some spaces next to the wall are impossible to access. Insist on not being near the wall.
As a Diamond member, Wi-Fi and other services came with the exchange. If just doing a rental, check what is free or requires a fee.
The spa/gym is small. The hot tub only fits six and was never operational the two weeks I was there. The steam room made up for that.
Oddly, there are two markets on the property. I used the larger store. I thought the prices were very reasonable.
Currently, there is construction along the main highway(TF 64) leading to the resort. Several traffic circles in close proximity, be careful. Know where you are going if you visit Los Cristianos or Las Americas.
When we went it was a slow season. Locals say it gets very crowded during the summer, Christmas and Easter. Beat the crowds and visit late April through mid-June.
We visited most of the island either driving there or taking a tour. Research tours especially jeep Safari tours on Tenerife or La Gomera. They can squash four in the far back, very uncomfortable and if they don’t take the roof down, you won’t see much.
Tenerife is a wonderful, diverse island.
Don’t be afraid to explore it all.
It can get hot in the south but there is usually a stiff breeze which can be a problem on the beaches, especially at nearby Playa de la Tejita, with blowing and drifting sand.
