RCI and TripAdvisor traveler
Reservation from RCI. I was told this is a 5 star resort..NOT.
I checked in…they charge a $20 resort fee…oh well..I paid it..then I was told to go to another guy to talk about breakfast in the morning..Well…I turned it down..they wanted to talk about a timeshare ownership…nope..it would of been a waste of my time.
I went to my unit they assigned me..it was ok.
It was clean and stocked well in the kitchen.
The bathroom had a shower/steamer stall and a huge Jacuzzi tub..nice vanity.. toilet paper.. cheap..I bought my own…. bedroom had nice furniture..but that bed..oh my gosh..it was lumpy and very uncomfortable..2013 mattress.
7 nights of ouch, ut oh well.
Wifi sucked, then for premium wifi. They wanted more money..that sucked..so I cancelled it.
The themostat needs replaced, It has a old Mercury bulb type.
Washer and dryer was down the Walk way about 50 feet..it cost $ 1.50 to wash and $ 1.50 for dryer..dryer sucked..clothes on 60 minutes.. was still wet..I took them back to my space and hung them every where to dry.
It is close to many attractions and restaurants.. within 20 minutes of Walt Disney world.
Just an ordinary place to stay..not 5 star.
I read a review a few months ago about the mattresses and bed bugs. I saw no bed bugs, but I called the office and asked about the old mattresses. They told me all were changed out to new ones. Well they forgot the one in my unit.
The unit was clean and bug free..but not 5 star.
I would not stay here again.. too many resorts near by.
Worse Vacations Ever
Upon arriving I was offer a free breakfast buffet, resort did not advise that there was a timeshare or a club membership presentation require for the free breakfast. When I ask, they told me ” since you are a referral, they will only update with the resort changes” LIE, LIE AND LIE
The day of the breakfast, i was sent with a sales lady who told me that there will be a presentation I have to attend, and can’t promise how long it will take. ( to make history short, I must to attend to this presentation, not only for the free breakfast, but for the deposit i have put on, upon check-in, and the theme parks tickets discounted purchased from them, otherwise, I would loose my deposit, and will have to pay the full price ticket)
I end up loosing a half of day, got there at 9:00 am and finished around 2:00 pm (what a nightmare) rooms where humid, and furniture very old, sofa bed worse ever, couldn’t sleep for the entire 5 nights (since we check-in on Monday instead of Saturday.
Resort does not have an elevator, my mom has difficulties to walk up stairs, but it was no other option. lake/beach area were not clean at all, chairs very old and rusted, pool has a very poor quality.
Customer Service, worse ever, I try to contact the person who offer the free breakfast ( apparently is connected with the resort, since I was sent to him for my room keys) for two days, and the front desk receptionist said he was off those two days before the presentation.
I could go on, but I just want to advise that this was my worse vacations with the family ever.
If only a zero rating was possible
Bed broken, tub had black mold of some sort which we figured out after my wife getting sick. They sign u up for timeshares as “VIP” members and it costs you, which is a part of the hotel paperwork so watch what you sign.
The price for the room is great and it really is close to the park and everything you need.
But they literally give you a busted room and don’t help, no shuttle, room service, or anything…
HOWEVER… they have an “ice cream social”… on Friday… where u get crappy ice cream from the staff as they awkwardly look at you.
Solid place…
Nice Stay But a Word of Warning
This is a nice resort with pretty nice rooms; however, I gave it a lower rating because as soon as you get to your room they make a phone call and rope you into the standard timeshare breakfast/lunch scheme. If you answer the phone, I recommend not answering the phone, they will get you to pay $20 (refundable) to go eat breakfast/lunch and listen to a 2 hour presentation on a “new” way to buy into timeshares.
Once done you get a $100 gift card ($80 plus your $20 refund). Needless to say the “new” program is still a complete ripoff and as much as they want to play “slight of hand” if you know prices of cruises, air, and hotels you find their deal isn’t a deal at all.
They swear their availability is better than RCI and II, but it is the same.
We had a one bedroom but it was quiet even with neighbors surrounding us, it had a jacuzzi tub and separate shower and all tiled floors.
The pool was heated and warm and since an older crowd seems to stay here it was very pleasant and quiet.
Resort? More Like A Cheap Motel
I booked this place through RCI timeshare. We got to the place and our jaws dropped. Mind you, it was not in awe, but in disgust. We paid for this?! It was shabby inside and out.
They should be sued for calling this place a resort, I have no idea who would want to own or buy this place.
The location was terrible if you don’t have a car or need to call a cab. Transportation shuttles are not free and will cost you a good amount for each day you want to go to a theme park/mall.
The internet room only has two computers that must be ancient with the way they run.
If you think you are saving money by booking a room at this place, trust me you will be spending a good amount trying to get away from this place and keeping yourself entertained.
Save your money and put it towards staying @ a Disney resort/hotel which provide entertainment, good restaurants, free transportation to the parks (you don’t have to worry about parking or paying for it!), and closer to other parks such as Universal Studios, Wet & Wild, etc. Bottom Line? Stay away from Grand Lake Resort!
