Owners of St Mellion International timeshares often find themselves trapped in infinite contracts with rapidly increasing maintenance fees which ultimately stems from a mis-sold timeshare contract. Over recent years there have been a number of ground-breaking rulings regarding timeshare mis-selling by many timeshare groups and resorts which have resulted in refunds and compensation.
Many owners of St Mellion International timeshare contracts are entitled to, or have already made claims. Such claims arise following complaints from owners such as high increases in fees including maintenance fees, aggressive fee collection procedures enforced by the timeshare scheme and contracts committing owners to paying fees “in perpetuity”
St Mellion cottages - a complete embarrassment to the hospitality industry.
We were due to stay at St Mellion for 3 days and as I had some meetings and my wife had to hang around, we booked a cottage so she had more space, a lounge, a kitchen and wasn’t just stuck in a hotel room.
We initially arrived at 12:30 to be told to go away and come back later as our lodge was being cleaned. We came back a couple of hours later and checked in. As soon as you walk in to a cottage, it’s like going to see your Granny in the 70’s. Everything is 30 years out of date, no money at all has been invested in maintaining them, and they are, frankly, an embarrassment to a professional hospitality company and should not be sold to the public. Seriously.
In our first lodge, the toilet wouldn’t flush, there were cobwebs running from the fire to the fireplace, thick dust on the TV unit, the carpets looked so old they shouldn’t have been there, the were castors on the front of the sofa but not on the back, and when we opened a window in the bedroom, it was broken and wouldn’t shut again. All the furniture, curtains, carpets, everything really, is so old it pretty much falls apart.
We asked to be moved and were moved to a lodge that was slightly cleaner. However, remember light pink bathroom suites? (no, thought not!), remember VHS video players? This lodge had one. One of the lounge curtains was hanging half way off the the rail, there were cobwebs all over the entrance, and the quality of the maintenance (grout, sealant etc.) was embarrassing for a 5 year old, never mind a professional maintenance man in a four star hotel.
We went out for dinner and it was only when we got back that we found out it had no heating, and the next morning we found out it had no hot water either!
You won’t be surprised to know that we packed, demanded a refund and cancelled the rest of our stay. The staff actually told us that if anyone books a lodge, they normally call them and tell them the lodges are really out-dated and ask if they’d like to stay in the hotel instead! And this is from a professional hospitality company who supposedly run a four star hotel.
I’ve said enough; you get the picture; don’t ever book a lodge at St Mellion; we won’t be going back.

absolute pile of rubbish
this place is just…………….clean. The lager is rubbish, the food is basic and the rooms are as romantic as a garden shed. The service by some of the staff is absolutely diabolical. The StMellion is a motorway service station with a bed and a bar and quietly just that. if you need somewhere to stay then its ok, if you want a nice place to stay its not.
Terrible Brasserie
The service in the Brasserie restaurant is absolutely terrible to start with and then the food is even worse. They can’t even toast a panini so it’s hot.
You should avoid eating at St Mellion at all costs, every member agrees and very few eat there.
Take my advice and go and eat somewhere else plenty of good pubs around.
Becoming less and less family friendly.
I visit St Mellion on a regular basis but will be stopping soon as the resort is becoming less and less family friendly especially for young families. The main gripe being the Brasserie. Originally a good place to eat with younger children they have now pushed the child-friendly area outside the Brasserie itself, into a high traffic corridor, under the stairs and right outside the toilet. Lovely.
The staff have always been a bit hit and miss with coming to take an order but now we have to sit out of sight it’s even worse.
In this new area there isn’t enough room for more than one family and certainly not enough room for highchairs especially if people are waiting to go into their gym classes. Plus you might have to leave your child unattended if you actually want to find a highchair.
The members, male mostly, complain openly if a child makes any noise at all and have the tenancy to swear loudly about it, to which the staff apologise for them being disturbed, there is no apology for the members behaviour though.
All in all it feels that over the time of my visits the resort has become discriminatory to young families, and the pound that a guest spends is not as valued as the pound of a golfing member.
Oh and heaven forbid that you use a pushchair that is too big for the lift which means you have to walk around the outside of the hotel to access the lower level, expect abuse from golfers and to be forced off the pavement by golf buggies.
Left a bitter taste........
As a group of 10 we were looking to go to Bowood but after speaking with the sales team at St Mellion we were offered a great deal. 2 rounds of golf (one on each course) over night stay, evening meal, breakfast, buggies on the Nicklas course and £150 for the group in the bar. Too good to be true? Yep it was…..I paid half as the deposit a few months before our trip. I then received an email a few days before the trip stating that as we hadn’t paid the outstanding amount we would not be entitled to the £150 in the bar.
When I stated that we hadn’t been told of this, I was informed that it was in the terms and conditions. If I had been told this when I booked it, I would have paid the amount in full straight away. He also informed me that he had given us the wrong price and that his boss wanted to charge us the actual price instead of the one agreed. Thankfully they agreed to keep the price the same but would not give us the money in the bar. Determined not to let it spoil the trip we enjoyed the first day on the Kernow course.
With the evening meal we had a bit of a wait for each course. Food was average at best. The second day we went to the golf shop to arrange our buggies only to be told that they weren’t included in the package.
When I stated that I had spoken to a certain member of the sales team they informed me that if I didn’t have it in writing they would not honour it. I asked if they would speak to the member of staff and after a few minutes they returned stating that he didn’t offer me the buggies as part of the deal nor would he come out and discuss it with us.
Clearly he had offered us a deal that he was not able to give us and made out that I had made it up. Unfortunately I didn’t get it in writing and took his offer at face value. I could accept it if he came out and said he couldn’t give us the offer as he had quoted the wrong price but not the fact that he denied the offer in the first place.
Although we still enjoyed the Nicklas course the whole group agreed that we would never come back here again. We have a trip every year and from now on we will be looking at alternatives……WORD OF WARNING, GET ANY OFFER IN WRITING!!!!!
Will never go back!
Bed hard as rock – and it was 2 singles pushed together.
The main restaurant closed midweek so we ate in the only other available bar/brasserie. TV on showing football, young children running riot in the play area. Menu rubbish, wine list rubbish! We ordered a Thai salmon salad that was completely tasteless with salmon so overcooked it was white! The salad looked as if a bag of bistro salad leaves had been emptied into a bowl, the fish had been dumped on top, broken up and a bit of dressing drizzled on top. There were olives (straight out of a jar) in the salad – never had that in a Thai salad before! Not a hint of anything with any taste, let alone anything resembling Thai flavours!! Nobody came to ask if everything was ok with our meal.
When our plates (still full as we couldn’t eat it) were cleared we complained about the food, they apologised and took the cost off our bill. We were offered something else off the menu but declined as the menu was so rubbish there was nothing else we wanted. The wine list was bizarre and overpriced – we had a carafe of white as we couldn’t justify paying the price for something decent when the food on offer was so poor. We didn’t bother with dessert. The parents if the noisy, unruly children finally removed them towards the end of our meal – around 9ish!
After not much sleep because of the uncomfortable bed breakfast was served in the same dining room as dinner. Usual buffet style food – beans served in a huge soup pot making it a bit messy to help yourself! No salt and pepper on the table, so as with dinner we had to get some from an empty table. Surely it’s not too much to expect that the details have been checked before service starts?
In short – we will not be staying here again. This hotel has so much potential but is not what I would expect if a 4* hotel. If you do stay eat out at one if the many local pubs – the food and service will be much better. We’ll stay in a Travelodge rather than at St Mellion.
