Let Mercantile Claims help you with Alanda Club Marbella Timeshare Release, Claims & Compensation
Owners of Alanda Club Marbella timeshares often find themselves trapped in agreements with rapidly increasing maintenance charges which ultimately stem from mis-sold timeshare schemes. Over recent years there have been many groundbreaking legal rulings regarding mis-sold timeshares now being adopted by timeshare lawyers and timeshare solicitors leading to refunds and compensation. Many owners of Alanda Club Marbella timeshare contracts are entitled to or have already made claims for compensation or refunds.
There has been a huge increase in timeshare release enquires and complaints from clients with Alanda Club Marbella timeshares. Customers cite reasons such as high rise in charges including maintenance fees, aggressive fee collection procedures enforced by the timeshare scheme, and agreements committing owners to pay fees “in perpetuity”
A nice looking apartment complex, but the beds are still horrible
When we stayed here via a timeshare exchange in November 2011 we said we wouldn’t return and one of the main reasons was our negative opinion of the terrible beds.
Well 2½ years on we did come back for a few days and the beds are still horrible – we don’t understand why owners at this resort are not putting pressure on the managers Ona Group to improve them. We ended up staying here because when we were putting together our trip just after easyJet released their summer season flights last September 75% of the hotels and apartments listed on booking.com were showing no rooms available. So we panicked and just rebooked Alanda since we knew the area. Turns out we were booking too early and most places hadn’t released their rooms to the online agents – but they did so later. So that was a lesson to learn – don’t try and book holiday rooms too early!
When we stayed in 2011 we were in a 2 bed 3 bath unit that was really spacious. This time we did an online hotel booking for a 1 bed 1 bath apartment and the difference in size was incredible – these 1 bed apartments are tiny in comparison and in ours, the only bathroom was ensuite to the bedroom, so that’s hardly useful if you try and pack the maximum 4 people into the unit. Also, there was just about enough storage space for the 2 of us and none at all in the lounge area by the convertible sofa bed. Don’t know what that’s like as a bed but it’s not very comfortable to sit on for any length of time.
The flat screen TV had a reasonable choice of UK channels including the BBC so it looks like Alanda’s sorted out the problems after recent satellite changes. Based on the floorplan on the wall, the 1 bed units have been reconfigured to put the kitchen along the entrance area but there’s no breakfast bar and no room for a table, so whatever you do, avoid these 1 bed units in winter if you want to self-cater, otherwise you’ll be sitting outside on the patio in the cool or cold Spanish winter evenings, nights & mornings.
There is no charge to use the in-room safe. In the 2 bed unit the ancient air conditioning was unuseable – this time the 2 standalone air-con units were good, and quiet too. In our last review we criticised Alanda for being charged a whopping €40 for electricity – well we take that back. It seems that’s a charge imposed by Interval and not Ona Group.
We suspect that’s because Interval are releasing some getaways into the exchange system and the charge subsidises the amount they have to pay Ona for the rooms – so if you’re thinking about swapping to Alanda you need to be aware of Interval’s extra charge. As a hotel booking we weren’t charged an electricity surcharge.
In the bathroom you’ve still got the old 1980’s coffee coloured sweet, but the overbath shower is good, fed from a good size hot water tank taking up one of the bedroom cupboards. Alanda still hasn’t changed the ancient and poor tube type hotel hairdryers that were around in the 1970’s, so take your own hairdryer if you want an efficient one. We had very good quality bath towels but they’re only the small size bath towels not the larger bath sheets. Get tickets from reception for huge, good quality pool towels, which you get from the socorrista on duty at the pool.
Ona Group have now taken over the running of the restaurant but it’s obvious they don’t understand what people who stay in self catering apartment might want as it was almost empty most of the time and it’s overpriced. While we were waiting to get into our apartment the first day we decided to have some lunch. We couldn’t believe that omelettes (which were small but fine) were actually being served with ready salted potato crisps – well, you’d expect a salad but not crisps and for €6 plus. We ordered a tiny portion of chips on the side for £5.50 and they were terrible – hard and greasy.
If a restaurant can’t even cook chips they’ve got no chance. But not to worry, there are plenty of good places to eat reasonably close by and one of the best restaurants in the area just across the road. We’ve posted some restaurant reviews for Elviria, but just be thorough if you want to check out reviews generally because TA has some of them listed under Elviria but plenty more are just listed as Marbella, which is a bit confusing and less than helpful of TA. We’ve suggested they sort out this issue and hopefully they will.
So, nice looking complex, nice location just at the end of the bridge over the A7 at Elviria, but having returned to Alanda, we’re now more certain than ever that we won’t come back unless we know the beds have been renewed, and the new ones are good enough for us to fork out to stay here again.

Decent Hotel, not to be compared to a Marriott Vacation Club
We arrived on Friday, August 12, 2011, and the check-in was flawless, and we were in our room within 5 minutes after our arrival, which was at 430 pm. We (husband, 3 year old daughter and I) traded in our studio Marriott Aruba timeshare, via Interval, for this vacation.
The rooms were nice and the small kitchen was well equipped. There was a flat screen television in the living room and a smaller one in the bedroom, and we believe that in 2011 rooms should be expected to have such televisions.
Phase 4 part of the club was nice and convenient to the clubhouse, where the nightly activities/shows took place. We did not eat at the restaurant thereat, so we can’t comment on the food, although the BBQ dinners smelled really good.
One negative thing about the hotel, was that we had to walk 7 minutes to the beach, as the hotel is not on the beach. Once on the beach, we had to rent chairs, as none were provided for by the hotel, which was 5 euros per chair.
The hotel is convenient to restaurants and supermarkets in the area, which was a 5 minutes walk. We enjoyed the Taj Mahal Restaurant (Indian) especially. Overall the hotel is good for families and a good place to just relax and take in the sun. It is not as vibrant as the Marriott, but not a hotel to be overlooked.
Mixed views on Alanda.
We have been to Alanda previously & only returned this year because we wanted to be near our friends who were in Alanda timeshare sited much nearer the beach.
Our first apartment was in the San Sebastian Block & we didn’t even unpack because of the intolerable noise level from screaming kids through the adjoining double doors separating the apartments.
We were moved to next block (Santander) which also had the connecting doors but thankfully a much quieter family.
This apartment had a small balcony with side views of car park exit & road but a bigger problem was a sewage type smell (mentioned in the previous review) which came & went from what seemed to be the bathroom.
Another annoyance was that the air conditioning unit on our small balcony was very hot & noisy so we could not use it whilst the balcony was occupied.
We again asked for a move but were told that the only available was that which was our original one. W
e booked directly with Alanda & thought it overpriced especially as we could have had 2 weeks B & B at the nearby 5 star Don Carlos Hotel for slightly less.
Another annoyance was the insistence on a bond taken on our credit card against possible breakages or damage to the apartment even though we had already paid “up front” & in full. TV sets were old, small screen & box type & the lounge suite was discoloured, tired & needed replacement.
On the plus side, the club style apartment was very clean & spacious & staff friendly. Pools & clubhouse were nice & well maintained at all times.
Our previous stays in Alanda were in better apartments (Malaga Block) so maybe we were unlucky this time.
The complex has several supermarkets, newsagents & restaurants nearby & there was some live entertainment in the clubhouse bar every night.

Its OK but parking is a nightmare
We stayed at the Alanda Club Nov 1-7, 2008. The two bedroom condo in Granada 7 was large and spacious although the furnishings were a little worn and dated. We had two balconies which were lovely. We were pleased that it was equipped with a washer/dryer. The grounds were well maintained. It was too cold to take advantage of the swimming pool areas.
They serve wonderful cafe con leche in the restaurant. You will need a car unless you plan to stay in the immediate area or take a taxi into Marbella or the other surrounding cities. Parking was terrible. The parking garage under our condo building was designed more for golf carts than cars. It was nearly impossible to navigate between large cement pillars and other cars. In fact one evening we could not maneuver our car out of the parking stall. It was blocked by other cars who had parked in their proper place but were too large making it impossible for us to get out.
Rent the smallest car that will accommodate your party. The lights are turned off in the stairways. Light switches are identical to the condo doorbells and our bell was rang a few times by people looking for the light switch. We did the same thing trying to find our way in the dark. I understand conserving energy but couldn’t they install a motion detector?
There were no paper towels/napkins supplied and very little dish detergent. We had to purchase our own coffee filters.
We have stayed in numerous timeshares and at least paper towels, dish detergent and laundry soap and few few filters are provided to some degree. My only other complaint was the shower/tub in the master bathroom.
If we didn’t position the shower curtain just so, water would pour out onto the floor. It would not take much to install a glass shield to prevent the water from going everywhere. We did appreciate housekeeping coming in a few times during the week to tidy up and empty trash. The staff was helpful and friendly. I think I might try another timeshare in the Marbella area next time.
Overrated, old, cramped accommodation
We booked 3 nights in the Ona Alanda Club Marbella prior to our stay in the Marriott and were not really impressed.
Based on the price this resort places itself on a level it cannot live up to. The resort is old, in need of maintenance and is everything what you expect from typical Spanish customer service (non existent).
For this trip to Marbella we needed to come down with a smaller car than we normally bring if we travel with our whole family. Luckily we did this because our normal car would not have fit in the tight garage under the resort.
The elevators are small and very stuffy with the heat.
The apartment was clean and all necessary items were there, they were just old. The beds were good, but the linen was worn out and some had holes in them. Our apartment backed up to a road which made it very noisy at night.
The wifi is a true disaster.
It is so slow that smoke signals would be quicker.
There is the option to buy quicker wifi but that is only per device.
In my opinion good internet should be standard in this day and age, but to pay extra for good internet is something I can live with even though I think it should be standard.
Just that it would be per device I find ridiculous.
awful service
Have visited the Alanda many times over the past decade or so for lunch. won’t be coming back.
Dined in the restaurant. Waiter took the order at 15:45 approx. drinks arrived promptly. at 16:30 we still hadn’t received the food, the order was only 2 club sandwiches & one other sandwich. there were also no other tables around us eating. i asked the waiter what was going on with our food. he returned two mins later with our cheque! we hadn’t even gotten any food!! ridiculous service.
The excuse for the delay in food was ‘ we just started our shift’. No excuse. An hour after sitting down, we should have just gotten up and left, but the good people we are, we paid for our drinks and left never returning back
An inconvenient and disappointing experience
Our one night stay at Alanda club in May was a very disappointing and annoying experience.
To begin with, the check-in time is 4 pm and the check out is ensured at 10.30am which was very inconvenient. Once in the apartment, the AC was not working and it took more than 3 hours before it was fixed.
Wifi with very slow speed was provided for 5€ per day per instrument which was ridiculous.
These days fast speed Wifi is available free at all places in the price range of this place.
The location of the place, 20 minutes drive away from Marbella old town is also a major negative point.
The bedrooms were not sound proof and the noise from other residents was a nuisance all the time.
On our departure, the lift for the apartment remained stuck so all the luggage had to be carried down through the stairs. Glad we were there only for a short stay and will not recommend it to others
Beware!
My family and I checked into the Alanda on December 27th for a week long stay.
The expansive 2-bed apartment although superficially clean had inches of dust under all covered surfaces (Under beds/sofa/tables etc). Bed linen also smelled of dust. However, my main problem revolves around security or lack thereof of this establishment.
We have two young children and booked a meal at the Alanda restaurant on New Year’s Eve at 7:30pm. We left our apartment (locked) at 7:15pm before returning at 9:50pm to discover we had been burgled. The (locked) safe was ripped from the floor, smashed, and cash and small (though valuable) items stolen. Entry had been through a forced patio door. Our worries revolved primarily around hiding what had transpired from our young children.
Thanks to the help of Gaston on reception, we managed to do this by moving that night. However, my firm opinion is that this robbery was what one might describe as ‘an inside job’ (this I stress is my personal opinion).
I was required to use my key three times to get into this apartment/Some lights were left on/ The window of time was so narrow and we rarely left the apartment at night.
No manager was available (for 6 days!). I have received no call despite requesting on check-out that somebody contact me. What kind of place is this? Do yourselves a favour – there are lovely accommodation nearby avoid the Alanda club – I certainly will.
