Club Calypso - Puerto del Carmen

Diamond Club Calypso – Puerto del Carmen

Sadly problems with a potentially lovely resort

I make this review as a Club La Costa member. The resort is known as Diamond Club Calypso and this confused us as the reviews are under Apartments Club Calypso. The resort has several units with permanent residents. The remainder is Timeshare owners and CLC has now bought 6 units per week. Money gained from this purchase has been used to repair& upgrade the pool. ( Incidentally which is heated and is a great size )

If you are a CLC member be aware this is not CLC standard resort and has many problems with management resulting in a restaurant being a major state of disrepair. Saying that it is run by a friendly guy called Danny who works hard to keep the service for the residents. I didn’t eat in the restaurant except for a few chips from my daughter and they were the best chips I had eaten in a long time. The restaurant also runs a happy hour and is very popular with the residents.

Danny, please consider putting paper towels in the toilets and removing the old holey towels we found in the ladies toilet.

The apartments are just ok with tired and old-fashioned furniture. The resort is looking to renew some of the soft furnishings. The housekeeping is excellent and the apartment was clean and well stocked with cooking utensils & equipment. They are meant for 4 persons but it would not be a comfortable fit with two people sleeping on the sofa bed. The main bedrooms have twin beds.

We had problems with continued noise from moving around the resort from residents with airport trollies & wheely bins being moved. There was also a fly problem from some of the bushes and the bins not being emptied daily. The staff were noisy and would hold conversations across the resort. It was very hard to find relation & peacetime. There is also some residents with dogs and these also added to the noise and disturbance.

The resort charges a utility charge of 15 euros per week. You also have to hire your sunbed which means you are carrying it backwards & forwards each day. There was also a problem with people saving sunbeds and on our first day there found ourselves having to sit separately. Unfortunately, no one polices this so we ended up joining the sunbed rush in the morning.

The resort has a great location within the stretch of restaurants, shops and beach.

Unfortunately, first impressions stick and we would never go back to the resort.
