Many of the UK’s timeshare owners are currently tied into contracts with Westgate Resorts – one of the leading timeshare schemes in the USA. Westgate Resorts operate sites across the whole of the US including Orlando, Miami, Las Vegas, Daytona Beach, Branson, Mesa, Gatlinburg, Tunica, Myrtle Beach, Park City, River Ranch and Cocoa Beach.
There has been a huge increase in complaints and timeshare release enquires in recent months from customers with Westgate Resorts.
Many concerns centre on the following factors:
On the Decline for the past few years
We bought a timeshare here at what was the Westgate Towers. Initially we stayed here at the Flamingo Bay in 2009 as part of the sales pitch. Of course they put us up in the 2 bed suite. Now 6 years later we are staying in a 1 bedroom because Westgate lost their property “Westgate Towers” on the strip. Now operated under the Hilton Elara.
You are getting this review from an unhappy timeshare owner but I am also trying to be fair in my review. After spending a week in this condo complex several things stand out to me.
-First off the property appears in decline since we first visited.
-Our room had electrical issues- Non CFCI outlets next to water sources. Lights that you had to switch on two or three times to come on.
-Constant noise from the A/C unit when the front door was closed. Sounded like we were in a wind tunnel 24/7.
-The kitchen is poorly equipped with dishes and utensils.
-The shower door was not properly installed and felt like it was going to shatter from binding against the wall each time you opened/shut it.
-In the large public meeting room they have a t.v. rigged with wires, extension cords, and cables hanging all over.
-My younger daughter slept on the pull out couch and woke up with back pain everyday from springs poking her. She finally just put a sheet over the cushions and slept on those.
-The fitness center is crowded if there are more than 3 people in it.
-No business center
-Their idea of the guest services is a vending machine in a room towards the back of the complex
Make no mistake this is not a resort in any sense of the word. It is a two-story condominium complex. It is for the budget minded traveler and if you have small kids they will enjoy the pool but that is about it. I would shop around before staying here.

Overcharged and rushed out
We booked a two bedroom suite on a discount website, however Westgate Flamingo Bay charged double the advertised amount to my credit card, plus an additional resort fee. Buyer beware. Check out time was 10:00am, but just after 9:30 we had two staff members waiting impatiently outside the suite waiting to clean it – and it was clear they were not happy we were still there. Most other properties let you stay until at least 11am, some until noon with no extra charge. We were out before 10am, but that was not soon enough for the impatient staff.
When we first arrived, we were impressed with the amenities – one of the nicest places we have ever stayed at. Having a washing machine and dryer, full kitchen, jetted tub, living room and the dining room was really nice and far better than most accommodations. Outside there is life-size chess, swimming, miniature golf and more. The work out room is nice too. There is an onsite store, but the selection is very limited and pricey. I went to see if there were things to buy for a family breakfast, but most items are single serve individual items that are marked up price wise.
At first we were so impressed we had considered becoming Westgate members (we even had had one of their salesmen approach us on the Las Vegas Strip – he thought we were members though since we were staying on the property – we didn’t correct him because we had other plans and did not want to attend a high-pressure sales presentation with the whole family). However, after being overcharged by so much I am worried about the integrity of the organization and after being rushed out wonder if that is normal practice. Unfortunately what could have been an opportunity to sell us into a membership (we were really considering it when we first walked in) instead made us want to avoid Westgate altogether (as we saw the incorrect charges to our credit card – which apparently will not be corrected, and were prematurely rushed out in the morning by staff).
We did have some good experiences with employees – staff at the check in desk and security booth were very friendly and helpful.
After a great stay at the Westgate Town Center Resort in Orlando last summer, we trusted that the Westgate brand would require similar standards at all of their properties. We were wrong!! The Westgate Flamingo Bay is a 2-star property at best and we definitely wouldn’t stay there again.
– close proximity to the strip (less than 10 min drive)
– fast check-in and pleasant greeters
– comfortable beds and bedding
– clean pool area with towel service
– unsatisfactory cleanliness and upkeep of room (hair and food crumbs on the floor, handprints and dirt smudges on the walls, hole at base of kitchen sink sealed with gray duck tape, dirty baseboards, hair in shower, stained shower curtain, noisy ceiling fans, broken door to laundry nook, and floppy seat cushions on couch that came loose when you sat down)
– unsympathetic response to complaint/poor service – the view from our room was of the dumpster and the parking lot. when we asked to be moved, we were told that the property was completely booked and there were no other 2-bedroom units available. We were even willing to accept a one-bedroom but were told that they couldn’t move us. It was like we were left holding the short straw. We were told that if a unit became available, they would let us know and we were never contacted nor did anyone follow up to see how our 7-day stay was going at any point.
– pond under construction made entrance to the place look uninviting, not to mention all of the construction materials that were visible around the property.
In short, I cleaned and disinfected our unit like crazy before our family of 5 settled in and we stayed away from the property as much as possible. While the place isn’t a complete dump and has the potential for improvement, without a diligent staff that cares, a cleaning team that pays attention to details, and proper maintenance of the property, there’s no way the Westgate Flamingo Bay deserves to be called a “resort” or to receive a rating above “poor.”
I want to make my bad review to Westgate Flamingo Bay Resort. I stayed at this resort for 4 days and during this period, 2 coats of my wife disappeared from inside the room. I made a complaint to the security industry and even said to have made an investigation. The answer they gave me about this research is that nothing could do about it and they could not compensate me for the damage. The place has a very faulty safety and, moreover, assumes the appropriate responsibilities when something bad happens. An absolute nonsense !!!
Will never stay here again . . .
Spent this past weekend at Westgate Flamingo Bay Resort. I will never stay there again, nor will I recommend it.
I was introduced to Westgate Resorts through a timeshare presentation.
I wasn’t interested in making a long-term financial commitment with Westgate, but I was so impressed with the one bedroom suite they showed me at the presentation that I bought a 3-night, 4-day package. Goodness, gracious what a disappointment!
The best way I can describe my experience when I first walked into my room is to call it a bait and switch. Had I been shown this room, I would never have purchased the package. The room was mediocre, outdated and not at all what I was shown at the timeshare presentation. Like other reviewers have noted, the push is to get guests to the new property that’s being built to get you to buy into Westgate Resorts.
Even at the new location, I was not shown a completed one bedroom suite, only photos of what they plan on doing. I was shown a suite (though beautiful) that would not even be available to the average new “owner.” My list of complaints could go on and on, so I not even going to bother. If you decide to stay at Flamingo Bay, without a car, it is an inconvenient location if you what to spend time on the Strip.
There is a bus line right in front of the resort that runs every 15 minutes or so 24 hours a day. The resort does have a shuttle, but it can be difficult to balance what you want to do with meeting the schedule for the shuttle.
Over the past 10 years or so, I’ve stayed at various timeshare resorts, and this was by far my least favourite and worst experience.
I was really disappointed this weekend. Only stay there if you absolutely have no choice.
Trying hard with an inferior product
Spent a week in Las Vegas with another couple at the Westgate Flamingo Bay. Initially had a 2 br downstairs unit but asked to be relocated when a group with four small boys moved in upstairs, the noise was understandable but unacceptable. Our resort contact person spent two days unsuccessfully trying to move us even though we noted a number of unoccupied units. We finally spoke with the manager and were in an upstairs 2 br within less than half an hour.
The units we were in were clean and maintenance responded promptly to two minor problems. The location would be difficult to beat, only a few minutes drive west of the strip. North-south access is great allowing you to move throughout Las Vegas without fighting traffic on Las Vegas Blvd.
Tip, most casinos have free valet parking so for the price of a couple of dollars you don’t have to hike across acres of parking lot.
Our major problem was the physical unit itself, they are tiny. While in the Army we lived in a 12 X 70-foot trailer for a brief period that seemed to have a more spacious feel.
At Westgate, we had no place to store suitcases so we put them on top of the washer-dryer units. The closet in both bedrooms was a joke and a waste of a few square feet. Placing the bathtub in the master bedroom may be a neat feature for newlyweds, but basically just used up floor space Speaking of the tub, the hot water heater lacks the capacity to fill the tub to a point where you can use the jacuzzi. If four people are sitting at the dining table a person sitting on the side has to get up to allow the person on the back to leave.
As a plus beyond location, they do have a small one goal basketball court. with balls available at the desk. However, the desk personnel did have to inflate the ball.
We will not be returning to this resort in the future, not because of the personnel but due solely to the unit size.
