The sweat shop hotel.....
We traded red week RCI timeshares to come to this resort. What a mistake! It’s over 100 degrees in the Salt Lake Valley and 85 at Snowbird and we find out that our rooms have NO AIR CONDITIONING?!
What kind of place in 2016 doesn’t have AC…..the resort’s solution?? Gave us an extra box fan. What a joke. Our view was that of a dead pine tree, stagnant water on the balcony…..but the worst part? One of the rooms didn’t have a bed. Only a pullout.
Which would be fine except these pull outs are designed by Satan himself!
I attached a picture showing what it is…basically a mat ( about the thickness of a quarter) on top of a wooden slab.
To top things off, they had a wedding with blaring music right outside our balcony, which we can’t avoid due to the fact that if we closed the one window/sliding door we would really roast of heat. Come to find out that the resort has only renovated HALF the resort’s rooms, which do have beds and ac……so if you do book here insist you get a room on the east side. Avoid the west side like the plague. Of course, the one time I don’t reference TripAdvisor before booking and I get totally screwed.
Please learn from my family’s horrible experience!!!
Not a place that I would recommend
My wife and I were at the Resort late August of this year as a guest of a timeshare owner. We opted to upgrade our room at the suggestion of the person checking us in, to incorporate 2 rooms to gain space and comfort, since we hadn’t realized the one we originally booked had only a pullout couch. While we were aware when we booked our vacation that maintenance work would be being performed during that time period, we did not expect what was to occur.
The first night there was a loud wedding outside our balcony. The alarm in the adjoining unoccupied went off for hours every day. we called the desk twice during the week asking them to turn it off. They never did.
From Tuesday thru the remainder of our stay workers were Jackhammering the façade directly above our balcony, rendering the Hot tub useless as there were concrete pieces falling, which were left on the deck at the end of each day, not to mention the deafening noise.
One day we took the elevator down to the Lobby level only to find contractors spraying some sort of urethane on the walls requiring us to walk thru a cloud of that mist to get to the Lobby. They were all in respirators, we got to breathe in the fumes.
To top off our vacation, on 8/31, I purchased a pair of used skies from the “Snowbird Sports” store, which I paid to have shipped to my home address in Ct.
around the 9th of September, having not yet received my skies, I called to inquire as to where they were. I was told I would get a callback. I did not. The following Monday, I called again, and again I was told that someone would call me back. The following day I received a call from the store. They told me they were trying to locate my skies and would call back. I had to repeatedly call. this went on for 22 days after I had purchased them. When they arrived the packaging was heavily damaged, the skies were individually loose in the box and were severely scraped and chipped, much more so than when I examined them at the store, which brings me to my next issue. The skies I looked at at the store were 172cm, the ones I received are 179cm so they are not even the pair that I looked at and thought I purchased. The only bright spot was the gorgeous scenery.
Beautiful location but accommodation a bit tired
Stayed in a timeshare apartment.
Whilst the accommodation was adequate it was not at all special.
Overall a bit drab and dark although it was very clean and had most of the facilities you require for a weeks stay.
The biggest disappointment to us was the fact that there was no bed and we had to make up a sofa bed every night. Our fault I guess, we knew that we had a studio but we expected it to be like the other studios we had stayed in where there was a bed included in the living quarters.
Location is very spectacular – you are at 8100 feet and the mountains just stretch up above you – this is really something else as you sit in the hot tub and look up at the snow-covered mountainside.
If like us you are using the location to explore the Salt Lake City area be aware that there is a 15 minute 3000 feet climb every night as you head back to your accommodation. Didn’t put us off, its a lovely drive but perhaps in cooler months it could be rather treacherous
When we booked our room no mention was made of pending construction.
A few weeks prior to our arrival I received an email stating there would be ongoing construction – by then it was too late to find another resort and airfare was booked. The gave us a notice that construction would only be 8-5.
We were awoken before 6am to a concrete pump just off our balcony not the best way to have a relaxing vacation. The carpet in the room is old and in poor condition. There is no air conditioning and the rooms were very warm and stuffy in August. Needless to say, we will not return.
Overpriced for a summer visit
Stayed here July 2018 and was expecting a pretty fancy hotel given the price. It was okay… but honestly I would recommend looking elsewhere as I can’t see what justifies the high cost of this hotel. The lobby is nice but elsewhere most areas are cement block and don’t feel very high end at all.
Our room was large but not updated, the mini fridge didn’t work, and there’s a Keurig in the room but then only powdered creamer… these are small details and the place is definitely okay, but we were never wowed.
The prices throughout the resort are super steep and absolutely nothing was included for guests of the hotel. A cup of coffee was $4. To swim at the rooftop pool was $30 a person… I would just expect more hospitality from such an expensive hotel.
The views and entire Snowbird area are obviously stunning though! And this hotel is fine if it’s the only one available or you get a good rate, I’d just set your expectations.
I have stayed at the cliff lodge 4 or 5 times and I’m always disappointed. My take is that management doesn’t have to provide a good experience because of the great location and excellent terrain and snow. I know Utah liquor laws defy logic, but there is NO place in the entire Cliff Lodge where you can watch a sporting event with people under the age of 21. All big screen TVs are in bars so no children or young adults allowed! We stayed last weekend and my boys were upset that there was no place to watch March Madness except alone in our room. At least at Goldminers at Alta, you can go upstairs and have a Utah beer and watch the super bowl or playoffs or whatever with the whole family. The Cliff Lodge could fix this by creating a new space with a different liquor license but they choose not to.
Second thing: The thermostats in the rooms are messed up. Every time I stay at the Cliff the rooms are too hot. I can only get the room temp to 73 with the thermostat turned all the way down and the windows open.
Third thing: don’t charge me 30$ per day for the spa when you charge 500$+ for the room. That is so bush league. You would make more money charging 15$ extra per night and including the spa/fitness center. It’s like charging for each towel, toilet paper roll, shampoo, soap, etc. Lame.
Otherwise, the rooms are clean, the staff is nice and accommodating, the spa is nice, and the food is decent.
This hotel could be awesome and family friendly with just a few changes. It would be great if the upper management would listen to some constructive criticism.
