The 2 Bedroom they assigned us has old scratched up antique furniture. The bathroom is nowhere close to anything shown. In fact, this whole unit is nowhere close to any photos shown on RCI or even on the Holiday Vacation Club website. Very disappointed in this unit.
Very disappointed in my stay. I called the resort prior to my arrival and asked if my unit would have a washer and dryer and requested a crib. I was informed yes a washer and dryer would be in my unit and they would supply me with a crib. Upon arrival, I was told that my reservation does not supply me with a washer/dryer in my unit and they could not change it since it was through RCI. I travelled with an 85 yr old and an infant during the slow season. They informed me that the resort was full and they could not accommodate me because I had booked through RCI. I arrived on Friday and by Sunday there were about 10 cars on the whole resort yet there was no attempt to revisit my situation. I also had to wait for 2 days before a crib became available.
The unit self-was in dire need of upgrading. The pictures with the tree limb furniture is where was stayed. The 2 bedroom unit is for a maximum of 6 people. There are only 4 chairs at the table with 2 stools at the counter. There is also not enough living room seating for the number of people able to occupy the unit. Although clean and fully stocked the kitchen is old with old appliances that function although the stove had only 2 functioning burners and wobbled. The phone did not work and there was a strange kitchen counter with a nonfunctioning sink w/microwave in the smaller bedroom. The master unit had a jetted tub with a retrofitted shower and curtain. The Presidential units are very updated if you can get into one.
The grounds are well kept with a splattering of grills and picnic tables. The game/arcade room is a joke and ice cream is $5 per cone. The laundry room is free but everything else, including towel exchange is an additional cost. The outdoor pool looked very nice but it was closed. The indoor pool was clean and kept at a very good temperature.
The resort’s location to Chicago is it’s best asset. Although there is a local market right off the resort the nearest supermarket or any other shopping need is 30 minutes away. If you have a choice don’t come here, stay at the one in Wisconsin.
Our unit was very dirty when we got there the refrigerator was very dirty we talked to a manager about it and they stated that they would get it taken care of in which they sent 2 gentlemen to our unit to clean it but they sent me a duster back to the unit so I could dust it myself. When we booked it we supposed to have the Presidential unit area when we got there we were put in the back area, in which the management we talked to told us they would get us moved but once they found out we were not going to buy timeshare there they would not do it, Staff was very rude, very far out from anywhere, I will never go back there again. The water park was almost $17 a person to get into NOT worth it, they have a lazy river that is very small and 4 slides and a splash pad.
Let me start by saying that we stayed here 10 years ago and didn’t think much of it then, but we saw the reviews that they had done a remodel and added a water park so we thought why not give another shot? It is owned by Holiday Inn now but there are two sections-one that has been updated and one that has not- and of course, we got a building that was not… the decor in this place is exactly how it was 10 years ago down to the crazy hot tub being in the middle of your master bedroom with 80s pillars and all !! Just tacky. The headboards on both of the beds in the suite are made of logs to make them look like they are rustic and there is a Santa type sleigh as a coffee table in the couch area …we got there late in the evening and our room smelled horribly of fried fish…maybe someone in the next unit cooking? IT LINGERED ALL NIGHT! There were water bottle caps and pretzels under the beds in both rooms (we had a suite) which also made us wonder about the cleanliness of the beds. The windows and doors all leaked cold air terribly, so we took advantage of the abundance of towels that were in the room to stuff to Windows and doors against the drafts and it really worked! The Water Park is open until 9 p.m. but you have to get in your car and actually drive over there which is a complete pain in the butt when it’s -5 outside! The kids loved the water park but not worth having to completely dry off, start your car, and you can load up everybody and take them back to the suite. The Water Park is open to the public even to the people that are not paying to stay the night there, which enters quite a few overly large families. The swimming pool is separate from the water park so that’s another drive if you want to go to the pool! The resort is quiet, probably because no one stays there if they can just walk in from anywhere and use it.. If you want to eat, bring your own food because the food on the property is really expensive and the ONE convenience store in town closes at 9 p.m.
Has potential but needs lots of work
Positives: staff are very friendly, waterpark was great, indoor and outdoor pool options, several restaurant options on site, numerous activities
Negatives: EXTREMELY dirty – after 4 hrs in the water park and baths – our feet were black after walking in the unit for only 30 min, there was dried on food in the fridge, furniture was sticky/dirty, outdoor patio furniture was run down and dirty; very small living room. kitchens, and bathrooms. We stayed in a 2 bedroom and had 2 adults and 2 kids under 5 and were tripping over each other; there were lots of games to check out but all the ones we checked out had broken boxes and boards; arcade games weren’t working properly; although there were things to check out to do, everything was old and run down; there are security gate at both ends of the property, but they were never manned and the gates were open at all times; pool areas did not have enough furniture to accommodate everyone and there weren’t many people there; although staff were very nice, they didn’t explain anything unless you asked specific questions; the phones in the unit were either not working or the staff at the activities center just never answered the phone; there were minimum age limits to some activities which would have been nice to know prior to arrival; the pictures shown on the website don’t match the majority of the buildings. If you want a washer/dryer in the unit, you will need to rent the upgraded presidential rooms; there are no elevators, so depending on the building you are in, you will need to carry your things either up narrow stairwells
Called before leaving to request two cribs, was told it would be no problem. When we arrived, the cribs were not available, because they have a first come, first serve rule. Would have been nice to have been told that. Had to drive into town to buy two pack ‘n plays’ for the kids to have a place to sleep. The phones were dead. The sheets were dirty, with stains, glitter, and a lot of hair. Was told that there were no housekeepers on duty, so they had maintenance bring clean sheets for me to remake the bed myself. Not exactly what I had in mind for my first night of vacation. Leftover food from previous occupants. Underneath the beds and in the corners along the walls were dirty, as if only the middle of the floor was vacuumed. Only a few grills sporadically placed on the grounds. The grill closest to our unit had caked on marshmallow and gunk, so had to walk across the parking lot and neighbouring lawn to use a different grill. The outdoor pool area is adequate, but there is not a kiddy pool. The waterpark is not included in your stay unless you attend a sales pitch. The activity area is nice, but the food/snacks are on the pricey side
Not my kind of resort! Its more like a 2 Star camp ground.
We only went here because I signed up for the timeshare presentation thing and wanted to get my cash back. My intention was to try the Orlando resort but for several reason this did not happen during our Orlando trip and we HAD TO do this timeshare presentation by July. This place is straight in the middle of nowhere, a 45 min drive to the main expressway. On the property there is NOTHiNG! If your hungry you’d better bring your own food and make sure you have a kitchen in your room. There is a Subway and wannabe pizza nook right next to the Subway(this is a step up from vending machines). No general type store. The property is old and there are only some rooms that have been fully updated and look nice. We stayed in Building 2 which had some cosmetic updates, it was clean, and overall a decent place to sleep in, but still old with old appliances and accessories. NO WIFI was offered, had to use my data. The water park (Pirates Cay) is cute but very small, the lazy river was closed most of the time we were there and there is no swimming pool, if you want to just swim you have to walk over to another building where they have the pool. The pool was also very old and dirty, the changing room for the pool is NASTY! Small and dirty. Oh yes and no lifeguards, only in the Pirates Cay. Overall this place is just a camping lodge, if you like this type of vacation then its ok. This however is not a resort, there is no housekeeping, they wanted to charge for extra towels, only decaf was provided, cheap toiletries, not much to do and what is offered is very mediocre. I will NOT go back as it is not the type of place I would like to vacation/relax in and everything it offers is not up to my standards. FYI they tried to get me to buy a timeshare at $42K plus $100 monthly fees. LOL!! Ya right! I thought I was at a car dealer in the process of getting ripped off. The gentleman was nice and not a jerk but in the end he was a salesman trying to convince me to buy something that does NOT really save me any money, is not worth the costs, and he did this mainly by overinflating my supposed savings as an “owner” all while having me dream big with vacations in luxury villas on beautiful islands.
