Barnsdale Lodge Hotel Timeshare
Lovely location, appalling service
An annual group getaway entirely let down by the appalling service of the staff. I am genuinely shocked at how rude the staff have been throughout the visit & the manager’s lack of reaction to our complaint.
In particular, I would absolutely not recommend this hotel for stays with children, the staff were incredibly unfriendly towards children and we were charged £30 on top of a £120 room for a 5 yr old and 1 yr old to sleep too.
Food service was slow – our dinner served cold and our breakfast took an hour to get 12 meals, being tutted at when requesting more tea, told off for ordering coffees from the bar only adding to the misery.
The bedroom was lovely but for a fly infestation which the staff knew about “for a while” evidently too much to ask to be sorted.
This hotel could be so brilliant but like so many recent reviews is let down by the attitude of the staff.
Disappointing, nothing special
Booked in for an overnight stay for the wedding anniversary, what a disappointment. Website misleading, room poor and nothing like displayed on site. Lacked atmosphere, akin to a residential care home.
On arriving just before 2pm was advised that no restaurant was closing but could only offer us afternoon tea later, not quite what we had in mind. Pre-booked dinner in restaurant boring and unappealing but with a service cost (for what I’m not sure).
Breakfast portion small and mushroom – yes 1 mushroom cold as was the sausage. If you want no frills and a place to rest your weary head for a stayover in Rutland then this might be for you but sadly did not live up to trip advisor reviews and description on the website.
Don’t believe images!
Unfortunately stayed here for two nights.
On arrival immediately noticed several large cobwebs in the reception area and things got worse. Given a room with a carpet that should have been removed years ago – really dirty and stained. Given second room, only wish I had taken photos – the room needed a total revamp many years ago.
Cushions, for example, were old, tired and tattered and I could go on!
Along the corridors, there were artificial flowers which have not been dusted since goodness knows when. We choose to eat in the first evening and waited 45 minutes for our starter! Needless to say, we ate out the following evening. Staff seemed to vanish once they had directed us to our table.
At breakfast, if items were all gone from self-service no one was about to restock. Just a disaster from start to finish and really spoiled our visit to this lovely part of the country.
Beautiful hotel shame about the barman
We stayed at the hotel (in fact I’m writing this from the courtyard garden) on Monday and Tuesday, 2 and 3 July. Rooms are fine if a bit dated.
The barmaid on the Monday was great, nothing was too much trouble for her – brilliant.
We had a couple of cocktails each before going out to town. We had the Barnsdale Summer special cocktail – gin, elderflower, lemon, apple juice served with lemon, cucumber, mint and ice – refreshingly light.
On Tuesday afternoon we ordered the same cocktail – 3 with gin and one with vodka.
When the young man brought them out two of us remarked that it was a different colour to the previous day’s cocktail but he ignored us and placed the cocktails on the table.
There was lipstick on my glass so I took it back to the bar so I could have a clean glass.
He poured it from one glass to another with not even an apology.
My sister went to Reception to inform them of the problem but they merely stated they would inform the Duty Manager about it!
This is so disappointing as I am here with friends as a birthday treat. Such a shame
Good location but disappointing hotel
The Superior room that I had reserved did not have the facilities or ambience to deserve to be called “Superior”.
The test of a good hotel is the ability to provide a quiet and uninterrupted sleep. The sound insulation on my first-floor room was poor with the result that people talking in the room below until the early hours, allied to the sound of frequent toilet flushes, constantly disturbed my sleep.
The large influx of guests at the same time for Saturday morning breakfast meant that the few staff on duty were overwhelmed and my wife’s meal consisted of cold food on a hot plate
