What a disappointment!
Just wanted to warn people. Do not book the King Deluxe Room at their Ridge Pointe. You may end up on the ground floor with a crappy view of the parking lot(photos to follow).
The walls are so thin that we heard our drunk neighbours playing music all night long. Needless to say, our 5-year anniversary was ruined.
We booked a week at Ridge Pointe through Interval International. It is one building within a group of buildings scattered on the mountainside. The units are set up like a Motel Six with access to the units provided on outside corridors. Check-in is awkward at best as it is handled remotely with keys etc found in a lockbox near the phone.
We found the two bedrooms lock-off unit to be very dated. The furniture and carpet both could have used a very serious deep cleaning. The bathrooms and kitchen areas were clean. There was a very small balcony with a very disappointing view. There is no air conditioning in any of the buildings – it was quite warm.
There were sleep number beds in both rooms that we were never able to get to work correctly. Wasn’t a big deal to us but if that’s your thing then you will be sadly disappointed.
There was a hot tub, an exercise area, grilling and patio area within our building. The patio area tended to be a hangout and two nights there were parties that lasted until 3AM. Tough sleeping when you have to have your windows open for ventilation and people are yelling and vomiting well into the wee hours of the morning.
Due to the terrain and altitude, it is very difficult to walk anywhere at this facility. They do provide a shuttle that will pick you up and deliver you anywhere on the property. There is also a bus system that provides transportation into Heavenly Village.
There are a couple restaurants within the main Ridge Resort building and we tried them both. The food was some of the worst we have ever eaten so the rest of our meals were eaten at restaurants in Heavenly Village.
Overall, we found Ridge Resorts complex to be less than average. The check-in process, the lodging, the restaurants and the concierge were all substandard.
We will definitely return to South slake Tahoe but will stay in Heavenly Village where everything is convenient and not a 30-minute bus ride away.
Terrible service. Sad experience
While coming from across country, we planned out our trip ahead of time to book all our hotels. I found this hotel to be severely pricey but figured by the pictures, explanations online, and details given- that this would be an incredible experience!
When we arrived to Ridge Pointe, the check-in was not only confusing, you had to phone over to the main lobby, and our ‘hotel room’ was set on the opposite side of the Scenic Ridge, so we were looking at another hotel.
I had to call several times to figure out details about our room and if there was an opportunity to switch rooms given the pricey amount we paid for our room. The lobby then directed me to another lobby who could not help me.
Also, had to pay $5 a night if you want WIFI. I was very disappointed with our experience and won’t be recommending this place to anyone we know going to this area.
Very sad, considering we came from the Midwest.
Not Kid Friendly & Poor Service..The Stepchild of The Tahoe Ridge
The Ridge Pointe Tahoe is located near the main resort, The Ridge Tahoe, but too far to walk. You must either drive there or wait for one of their shuttles. The Pointe does have a BBQ area, a small workout room, a rec. room with a TV and a hot tub. But all the “cool” stuff is at the main resort. While this is a good location in the winter, it is not for the summer when you want to be closer to Lake Tahoe.
First let me say that this was an exchange. I reserved 2 junior suites and let them know 4 weeks in advance that I would have 4 young children along and could they PLEASE give me 2 units at least on the same floor. That didn’t happen. A lot of time was spent in the slow elevator getting to each other’s rooms. Those of you with children will know what I mean.
About the junior suite rooms:
Don’t let the picture of the jr. suites fool you. They did not look like this at The Pointe.
The Pointe was not designed well. There is no air conditioning. It gets stuffy and quite warm at night and you either use the fans or open the windows which are at hip level, opening to the hallway, not safe and not private. If we had the TV on to a volume so that we could hear it, so could the room next door. The people next door were evidently late night gamblers and wanted to sleep in past 9 am and complained about the kids talking and the TV that they could hear through the walls. The kitchenette was well stocked and efficient.
Upon arriving there was only one set of towels. I had to call for more.
The TV reception in one of the rooms was unacceptable, all snowy. I called and someone came down and said there was nothing they could do about it.
We ran out of toilet paper and asked to have some put into the room while we would be out for the day and that did not happen.
I would not stay here again, at least not at the Pointe, and certainly not in the summer.
Tahoe shaped "gravy" stain on the window shade..that was the high point..
Booked one night through Hotels.com 7/30 for $210. This is a sub motel 6 property. There was no staff to check us in when we arrived at 5 on Saturday. Not knowing the process we were told check in was down the street, so we got back in the car and called. They told us our keys were in a lockbox next to what would be a check in window with roll down steel shade. They gave us the box code, and we checked in like a Greyhound bus station drug transaction.
The room had one window looking half at the stucco wall 10 ft away and half at the hill across the street. When someone walks by and you are laying in bed they are six feet from you. there is no air conditioning, so leaving this window open is your only option, giving you the relaxing chorus of elevator and everyone on the floor at all hours. The style of the place is Arizona makeover of a 1992 Red Roof inn, with particle board counters, Gold octagon shower and TV/DVD combo we never got to work. I have stayed at the real Ridge before and it is mediocre, this addition is far far less than that and with no staff should be marketed as air BnB rather than a hotel room unless an unmanned coke machine makes for a service experience. The mystery gravy stain on the window shade was the crowning jewel on this disgusting experience..
Check In Nightmare
On August 8, 2015 we arrived at 2:40 p.m. expecting to check in and were advised we had to wait until 4:00 – no rooms were available. To expedite our 4:00 check in, we were asked to do the “paperwork”, which should have been minimal given we had booked & prepaid through Expedia.
Ten minutes later we are looking for a restaurant to relax in only to find a very limited “poolside” snack bar offering few items. When we returned at 4:00 to check in, everyone else who had been waiting all day to check in were also in line.
The line snaked outside, and the front desk would not release any rooms until exactly 4:00. Needless to say, people were outraged at this wait, and to appease the clients, the resort offered bags of chips while we stood in line.
The management was hiding like cowards in the back room forcing the front line staff to endure an extremely agitated crowd. Once we found our way to the room, an hour later, we found handles that came off taps, no shampoo or soap, a “sleep number” bed that wouldn’t stop adjusting itself, and no Wi-Fi. This is not a hotel – this is a second class vacation rental property at best.
Given how far it is from town, the lack of amenities such as restaurant and WIFI is deplorable. We paid top dollar for this unit, and would be better served at a budget motel in the village. Shame on the management for their “rules” on check in and exposing frontline staff to unnecessary abuse. Think twice about spending time here.
