Bamboozled at Parkway International
My wife and I checked in at Parkway International late morning on Halloween day and after meeting with the rep at the front desk were required to meet with con artists in the promotions area to get our room keys.
Before getting our keys I had to leave a cash deposit for a timeshare tour that I had no interest in taking. We took our luggage to our rooms, dropped our bags, and headed for a theme park.
At the theme park, we were alerted that we needed to leave our vacation early.
We went back to the resort, packed our bags, and then went to the front desk to return our key and retrieve our “timeshare tour” deposit. They took the key, but my deposit unfortunately wasn’t available and would need to be mailed to me.
We checked out on 10/31 and here I am almost two months later after several calls talking to the con artists at Vacation Village Voyages (the folks who handle the timeshare tours and the keys at Parkway International) and these thugs are in the business of hustling whoever comes through the door.
A friend of mine went there after the fact and after sitting through the timeshare scheme, and ultimately passing, was guilted to not ask for his deposit back.
Bottom line is that the resort has little to be desired (a simple pool and that’s it). It’s located behind a strip mall and has no privacy.
The buildings are old and drab.
If you are looking for a clean room you will find it at Parkway international, but it’s not worth dealing with a bunch of slugs for a timeshare tour.
There are plenty of other places in Orlando to stay that offer much more and don’t have the con artists from Vacation Village Voyages attempting to pick your pockets and bamboozle you.
Overall experience of the Parkway International Resort
The staff was great but the overall Resort is in much needed updating. The furniture needs updating, the room could use painting, wallpaper needs to be updated. The electrical outlets did not all work. The room was very dark due to the dark lamp shades. I would not stay there again
Bugs, Bait and Switch
The furniture is 20 years old, you don’t receive any new towels so we had to wash the ones in the washer/dryer unit. The front desk doesn’t check on you once you check in, not to mention they put us on the 3rd floor with plenty of availability.
One day I saw a huge roach in the bedroom and the front desk said that all that they could do is schedule pest control which would mean I would have to miss some time at one of the parks (No way, the tickets cost too much money)
We scheduled a tour with Vacation Village and we were lied too about how much time it would be so when we tried to get out $20 deposit back they gave us a $0 balance gift card and sent us on our way. The parks are great but the Parkway International Resort should close for renovations.
Lower end timeshare
We stayed for several weeks at different timeshares while looking for a permanent apartment. Of the timeshares we stayed at this was at the lower end.
The unit was dated, with torn wallpaper and very worn furniture.
The kitchen was well equipped.
The stairs to the unit were slippery when it rained.
The entire unit lost power one day in the middle of the day and we ended up moving out before the week was up.
There was no security or gate to the complex.
Relaxing Vacation - Outdated Timeshare
We escaped the snowy north for Orlando in January 2018.
We traded a timeshare week to stay here and were pleased. Our 2 bedroom/2 bath was 2 doors down from the office and the pool was right outside our back door. Inside the furniture is due an updating.
The dining room chair seats had been recovered in another layer of plastic, and acted like whoopee cushions every time you sat down. It gave us a laugh, but they need to be replaced.
The kitchen was well stocked, and the bed was comfortable. We had a washer/dryer in the unit. Outside had a nice pool and hot tub. There was pool bar and good prices on good food and drinks at Happy Hour. Only problem was the music or DJ that played constantly all day (right outside our room), but the choice of music was to our liking so we didn’t complain.
The location is off the beaten track, so you don’t have to fight the Disney traffic every time you leave the parking lot.
The staff was GREAT – helpful and personable. We refused the Timeshare meeting and asked to be removed from their call list, and it wasn’t a problem.
I would stay here again. For two older folks, it met our needs. I would return because of the staff and the location
This review is about 3 years late as the last time we stayed here was Jan of 2015. The reason why I’m writing this now is to warn anyone staying here to NOT give out your phone number for any type of promotion, raffle, free breakfast, or whatever type of ploy they use to try and reel you in to purchase a timeshare through Diamond Resorts.
We actually enjoyed or stay here and it accommodated our family of 4 well. We even stayed here on two different occasions. During our second stay, they offered a free breakfast and chance to win gift cards in exchange for our phone number/email and a “quick presentation” on timeshares. I obviously knew this was a sales tactic and had zero interest in a timeshare but I thought what the heck I want a free breakfast.
Well fast forward a few months and they (Diamond Resorts) started calling me. I kept saying I have absolutely no interest please stop calling me but the calls only escalated! It literally got to the point where they were calling me almost every single day at least 3x a day!! I couldn’t even block the number because it was a different number every time! This went on for months and months!!
FINALLY… praise Jesus, after probably 6-9 months of them calling it stopped. Now, Jan 2018 3 years after my stay there, THEY JUST CALLED ME AGAIN. This is like something out of a horror movie…
So in closing, I am posting this as a cautionary tale for any future guests. A free breakfast is not worth the headache I promise. Unless you plan on changing your phone number don’t do it or maybe give them a number to someone you really don’t like.
